Foraging- to search - to cast about - to ferret. I think I’m one of life’s foragers. Foraging is one of my favourite things from my floral design philosophy 5 F’s. I’m always on the lookout for things that dry well and are interesting textures. And I’ve always got my snips with me. My other half calls it space occupying. And that is true, for once it’s gathered it needs to be stored far from the nibbling hungry rodents. Others even call it dead. And while both of these sentences are correct, I happen to love dried scabious and grasses, seed heads and lichen covered branches. I even count miscanthus discovered in the wheel barrow of Cheshire East Council parks department. I maintain it’s doing a nice job of trimming nature and repurposing the material- the ultimate recycling. After all a wee bit of judicious pruning never did any harm | #britishflowers#cuttinggarden#seasonalflowers#fierceblooms#flowergrower
Happy #FiddleLeafFriday ! Here’s a more recent photo of my fiddle leaf, taken last weekend just before I saw it had mealybugs on it 🙃 but I’ve been cleaning them off and hope they’re gone, but as you can see on my story the smallest leaf is still turning black 😢 It’s grown about 20 centimeters since I got it 2 months ago, but I guess the good luck comes with some bad luck too 🍃
Edgeworthia chrysantha, showing off its clusters of yellow flowers. These smell amazing too- a feature that helps attract the few pollinaters around in January. A really beautiful suckering shrub if planted in a bright but sheltered spot.
