Of course we didn't only explore the historical sites and scenery of Peru, we also (very importantly) discovered the food culture. This was of my favourite meals of the holiday: lunch cooked by the incredible Inca Trail porters at 8,700 ft.
FOOD BLISS: Pan-seared salmon special at @skamanialodge earlier this week. I sat by the fire with a glass of @anichecellars wine and soaked up the gorgeous views of the Columbia River Gorge. Then spent the next day adventuring in the trees at their new Aerial Park. SO much fun! More on my @skamania_lodge_adventures soon!

But what you don't know is how it went down. It was the first week of pumpkin EVERYTHING being released at stores—pumpkin spice beverages, candy, baking mixes, you name it. So I thought, "omg I need to get PSL because it's fall!" My bf and I were sleepy so we went to the nearest coffee place for some lattes. I ordered my PSL to share but they accidentally gave us a Canadian maple latte. So that became his drink and the PSL became mine. It was the worst PSL I've ever had. It tasted like bathroom soap and I'm not sure why. (& that's why I'm not tagging the place.) So it just sat there and we sipped on the Canadian maple latte together. It had a kick because of cayenne and it tasted amazing. Drank the whole thing. What we didn't know was that CAYENNE IS A DETOX SPICE. We don't usually have cayenne in our diet so when we had that in our tummies, it was a shock to our GI tracts and needless to say, we were quickly forced into a very unwelcome detox 😂

• Pineapple sage! This stuff is so cool, the leaves really taste like pineapple, and APPARENTLY if you put the flowers in water and leave it in the fridge overnight the water turns pink and tastes like pineapple too! Whether or not this is true will be determined tomorrow when I give it a go myself - stay posted! Also, does anyone have a recipe for elderflower champagne? I think tomorrow is going to be a beverage concocting kinda day 😋🍸🍹 •
MORNIN' 😴 I've done that annoying thing when you crave a lie in ALL bloody week, then the weekend rolls round and you are wide awake at 7AM 🙈 ffs. I've had such a hankering to up my baking skills lately. So, I decided to make some cookies from scratch and tried an oatmeal cookie recipe. Here are three pics from each stage of the process. Finally got to use my mixer that stays hidden in the cabinet most of the year.
They turned out pretty well, not amazing, but pretty good. Still need a lot more practice when it comes to baking. Cooking comes so much more naturally to me.

I found the most amazing recipe on Pinterest for a roasted sweet potato, carrot, ginger soup. I didn't have very high expectations but was completely blown away.
It has a really good savory flavor with a hint of spice from the ginger and just the right amount of sweetness from the carrots and sweet potatoes. Great way to start fall cooking. This is going on my list of favorite soups.

We are moving towards the warm weather now and today was apparently quite hot and this coconut milk and lemon grass poached chicken salad was absolutely a hit among the boys after school along with few blocks Popsicles too.😍😍. Breakfast in bed doesn’t have to be just on the weekend. We’ve been starting our weekdays off lately with @libertecanada Greek Crunch yogurt – like regular yogurt, but fancier 😉.
