We also helped another family being evicted onto the streets over the week. This is a case where the husband of the family had difficulty dealing with drug addictions. When that happens, it always lead more problems to the wife and his children.
Azy, the wife, together with her 5 children left the house belonging to her in laws over an arguement few days ago. She who barely gotten a job as a security guard before this left with no choice but stayed in the school where she is working in together with her 5 children as temporary measure. School will reopen in coming days and they will have no where else to go.
We helped Azy and her 5 (4 of them are school going) children to take shelter in this house they found nearby by taking care of the deposit and the basic necessity. Aizat, the husband meanwhile undergoes rehabilitation programmes in a rehab center in PJ. Azy will have some money from her pay soon and life will be more stable for her then. Hope everything will be better for this family.
Our Response Team consisting Mickey Wee, Michelle Ho, @Kimberly, @Amir came across a single mother with two very young children (2 yr and 6 yr old) on the streets for the first time last night. You will agree with us if we describe her life was in a mess after reading further into her life story.
What she told us is just one of the many cases we came across in the past actually. Stems out from the root cause itself, problems within the family and poor upbringing. Hafizah and her children were chased out of the house where she was staying with her brother whom she claims as abusive and a drunkard.
Her father passed away when they were still very young and when her mother remarried, the relationship with the step father is not good. Both herself and her brother were probably neglected as a result. Probably they have already lived on their own when they were in their teens. She married a man who later got into drugs the relationship didn't last too long.
Hafizah have 3 children from that wedlock, the 1st born was given away because she just couldn't afford to take care of her. We referred her into Anjung Singgah for the weekend before all other arrangements can be done.
Do you know that just one hour of your day can feed at least 57 families?
It is hard to realize the impact of your time—and awesome potato bagging skills—until you’re on the receiving end. I know I have.
Being back in this place brings back a lot of fond memories of my adolescent years. When my family and I immigrated to the United States, we couldn’t afford daily necessities, like groceries. I remember my mom would come home from the food bank each month with a bag of an assortment of treats: uncooked pasta, rice, canned foods, bananas, crackers...and I remember pointing to one and saying, “oh my God, this alone is worth $4.75 in Ralph’s right now!”. God spoke to me in the potatoes I bagged today. Each bag of potato feeds a family of 4. That family of 4 (well, 5, actually) used to be us. And so, contrary to what was instructed of us, I made sure that each bag gets an extra piece of potato, a handful of TLC, and prayers.
They’re always in need of volunteers. Let me know if you want to join @carol_luis and I next time! “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” - Luke 10:2
I feel extremely blessed to be on board with this campaign! @foodbankwa As important it is to enjoy a healthy green juice, it’s also important to follow another food trend that affects 3.6million Australia’s a year! - it’s called food insecurity! A situation that families and individuals need food but aren’t able to obtain it. Find out more at bit.ly/FoodbankDose #bunupsandbananas#doseofreality#foodbank#foodinsecurity

"How about 'you know it's gross but the poor don't have your taste and will eat whatever you give them"
"Too wordy, 'great food bank item'?"
