Did you know that doctors are only required to have 4-6 hours of nutritional training in ALL their years of schooling? I didn't know this until I personally began to learn about nutrition and health. By those standards most of you who have even done research online have more knowledge about nutrition then your average doctor. Just because they are a doctor doesn't mean they know what's good for your health. Doctors only know how to diagnose and prescribe. They know nothing about true health and healing, which comes through proper nutrition. I was talking to someone about this yesterday and just wanted to post the information I know and have available. Hopefully it will help others learn as well. We are not #omnivore beings by nature.
If you are a #meatlover and this offends you, sorry but the #truth cannot be hidden.
These are all great documentaries that you can watch for free online to get started on your health education. Please do the research yourself.
It’s finally Fall in RVA y’all! What’s your favorite thing to eat when it gets chilly?
It’s soup season! This deliciousness was vegan+gluten-free. All you need it veggies to make a great soup! Love keeping it simple. I served this one over a bed of kale instead of pasta or brown rice as per my usual. Yum!
Here's a late post on #WorldFoodDay - food justice is, like anything else, an issue of social inequality. The ubiquity of food makes it a tad bit hard to step back and view the food production system as it is - an industrial and globalized system that is deeply entrenched on capitalist schemes that puts premium on profit generation at the cost of oppression of vulnerable members of the society. We must recognize our consumption of food as a social action that affects labor rights, animal rights, environmental policies, national laws that are flexible on billion dollar companies at the expense of putting marginalized groups as easy targets of marketing strategies. This is the only way we can understand that making informed choices about our food consumption is a vote on a society that is pro-poor and pro-environment.
This dichotomy could be more understandable if it was improving, but if anything, it seems to be getting worse.
Arable crops and water that could be sustaining people, instead, go to livestock to feed our ever-increasing demand for animal products. On top of that, the land required for grazing, not to mention the methane emissions by animals (a far greater global contributor than transport) are an environmental time-bomb.
By means of example here are some conservative estimates (Business Insider) related to the average ‘costs’ of a quarter pound of beef:- - 14.6 gallons of water - 13.5 pounds of feed - 64.5 sq ft of land - 0.126 pounds of methane - 4 pounds of carbon footprint
Environmentally and sociologically we just cannot sustain a diet with the levels of meat and dairy products we currently consume.
In addition, our tendency to eat processed foods high in sugar, salt, and preservatives are doing untold damage to our physical and mental health, largely out of convenience and because it is more beneficial to the balance sheet of multinational food manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies.
This, and after thousands years of civilisation, people all over the planet (including the UK) are still going hungry.
I’m cleaning out / packing up the medicine cabinet and came across theses 💊...and many others. All of them are expired....2013...2014...2015...they are all expired because since 2013 we’ve found more natural ways to stay healthy....
✅ essential oils do everything from soothe achy muscles to relieve congestion and ward off germs to keep my house smelling good (Mr. Barnes used to be a Glade plug-ins junkie! 😩)
✅ raw honey soothes scratch, sore throats and boost immunity while acting as a natural anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent.
✅ a daily dose of superfoods in our shake boosts immunity by giving our bodies what it needs on a cellular level, so in turn cravings are crushed and it’s easier to make better choices, which in turn keeps us healthier too.
✅ eating real food is the best way to start. If you haven’t see the movie Food Inc, definitely check it out on Netflix, it will open your eyes to what has become “normal” in our nutrition and I’ll just tell you, what has become “normal” is not natural. Basically every day we are putting foreign substances into our bodies and our bodies don’t know how to digest them, hence we have more people, including our kiddos sick these days.
Do you see the cycle here? 🔄 What we put into our bodies and house matters. Nothing is independent of the other.
❓Did you know 40% of adults are obese?
❓Did you know 20% of our kids are obese?
Diabetes is on the rise. Our society, as a whole is sick.
This isn’t about getting skinny, it’s about taking charge of our lives, our bodies and our homes and getting HEALTHY. It starts in the home, parents, it starts with us.
Let’s make a pack to banned together and make better choices. When we know better we choose better. Let today be the day you make ONE better choice than you did yesterday.
FOOD INC. 🌽🥔🍠🥓🍗🍖🐄🐖🐓 Grauenvoll! Ekelhaft! Traurig! Kein neuer Film (2010) - aber immer noch aktuell! Mir fehlen die Worte - und wir sind doch alle „gefangen“ in diesem System... #food#foodinc#maldrübernachdenken 🤔😔
It's no secret for the past 2.5 years I have maintained a 95% vegetarian diet. It wasn't about the meat being from animals, I'm just not a big meat eater, never have been. I recently just watched #foodinc and part of #whatthehealth . I can't even put into words how they have made me feel. My whole perspective on the meat industry has changed. I am happy to announce from this day going forward I am 100% vegetarian. (Sorry drunk version of me, no more late night taco bell.) #netflix#vegetarian#onedayvegan#doingitformyself#planetearth#mothernature#filteroftheday
Here are some documentaries and youtube videos that steered me towards a plant-based lifestyle. Personally, the wellbeing of our planet has always been very important to me. "Cowspiracy" and "What If The World Went Vegetarian" presents a great deal of facts pertaining to the decline that the animal agricultural industry causes to our environment. This terrified me, and I knew that this was something that I did not want to contribute to. The last three photos that I included are from videos/documentaries that touch on health and animal suffering. Although these were not my main concern, I was still significantly affected by watching animals have to suffer the way that they do. It was very difficult and upsetting to witness living beings be subject to harsh torture and slaughter.
I have also heard wonderful reviews of the Netflix documentary "What The Health", which discusses the several cancers, heart diseases, etc. that animal products can bring to a human body. Cowspiracy is on Netflix, and the rest (besides Food Inc., but I'm sure that can be found on other websites) are up on Youtube. ❤
I'm not one to judge, preach or tell others what their choices are ... but please please research where your meat is coming from. Everything is energy... we eat it breathe it... we take in the suffering these animals feel. The aggression they are faced with ... their fear...infections... diseases...all of the chemical injections... antibiotics.... wormers... just to name a few ... I became a vegetarian a year ago because of this fact... meat started to turn my stomach .. a year later I'm verging on veganism ( I eat honey) and I have researched into food farming. I'm not judging anyone, just trying to inform you ... watch ' food inc' ' what the health' ' vegucated' ' forks over knives' ' food choices' 'the C word' .... all on Netflix ... then make an informed decision. Remember everything is energy... what we take in we become ... make the connection. Join the dots.... realise that tasty bacon sandwich is indeed a dead animal that has suffered immensely.... 🐣🐤🐥🐂🐄🐖🐓🐮🐷🐽💔💔💔 go watch!! Don't take my word for it... educate yourselves.. #whatthehealthfilm#vegucated#foodinc#foodchoicesmatter#savetheplanet#veganism
Übrigens steht aktuell die Doku 'More than honey - Bitterer Honig' in der ARD-Mediathek :) #dokus#eineunbequemewahrheit#cowspiracy#morethanhoney#diebucht#waretier#hopeforall#tomorrow#gabelstattskalpell#forksoverknives#plasticplanet#zehnmilliarden#blackfish#foodinc
@Regranned from @jaygee0621 - #Repost from @a_lallie_new with @regram.app ... The new season of the UK Apprentice aired last night and this was the most talked about scene - a lady punching raw meat 🙄I feel like this is symbolic of the way society treats animals. They say they love them with their words but really cause violence towards them with their actions.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with the format of the show especially since Trump used to host the US version. Well on the UK version, their first task was to design, create and sell burgers.
While brainstorming they chose the theme 'health'. I thought 'great veggie burgers'. Nope. They equated health with processed beef and chicken flesh burgers that came from animals that suffered on factory farms where they were injected with all kinds of growth hormones and antibiotics before being violently massacred in slaughterhouses.
The contestants then went to the butchers where they decided to buy cheap meat imported from Holland. They struggled to make the burgers and ended up punching the animal flesh as seen here. Next was creating the labels. They labelled the burger patties with terms like 'organic' (huh?), 'free range' (how do they know?) and 'locally sourced' (I didn't know the Netherlands was on London's doorstep)
Again this just shows how marketing works. All companies do this. They add these nonsensical comforting lies to their 'products' so that you feel less guilty participating in what you clearly know to be wrong. They add labels like 'free range' when in reality those factory-farmed animals never saw the light of day.
Anyway the main thing I took away from this episode was how utterly disconnected society is from meat and the animals that suffer. All so that people can senselessly feast on animal flesh and forget about it five minutes later. A LIFE lost for a meal easily forgotten, is it worth it? #MakeTheConnection 🌱 .

What to do when you have a huge pear tree in your back yard?? Freeze them, make pear chips with cinnamon and nutmeg (slice thinly, toss with spices, dehydrate/bake on low heat) make fruit leather (blend desired fruit and dehydrate/bake on low heat), and give to friends!! 🍐🍐🍐 on a more serious note, today in class we watched food inc. and it brought up a lot of feelings for me. For those who don't know what it's about, it's basically a documentary critiquing our food system. I cycled through shaking my head, crying, and saying "f off" under my breath. I'm glad that this film reveals the issues with our food system and specifically the way animals are exploited, but I think the solutions they provide are EXTREMELY misguided. Definitely hyped me up, which is good because I'm working on a project that addresses these issues that could turn out to be really cool. Gotta channel that energy into something positive 🌞🔥what do you think of food inc? How should we address issues of exploitation (environmental, human, non human, etc)?
Holy cow...pun intended! If you have not seen “Food, Inc.,” do yourself a favor and watch it! I knew a good bit of the information about our food supply but it is downright scary how deep it goes. Educate yourself, people. #fitnessandnutrition#takepart#foodinc
Do you have kids in your life?
My life is blessed with a three year old who loves to help cook. We chopped up the veggies, opened the cans and let him put everything it the croc pot himself and turn it on. After playing at the park and coming home; soup was finished! He made soup all on his own 🙂😉#promotehealthyminds#promotehealthyhabits
