Гастро-ужин – это кулинарный мастер-класс, где у каждого участника имеется свой собственный набор продуктов, индивидуальное рабочее место и внимание от ведущего шеф-повара. Главное отличие гастро-ужина от обычного мастер-класса – это приятное времяпрепровождение и дегустация собственных блюд в кругу единомышленников. К тому же, всех гостей будет ждать приятный бонус в виде вкуснейшего комплимента от шефа. Длительность мероприятия – 3 часа. За это время гостям будет предложена возможность приготовить сразу 3 блюда: 1) Салат с мандаринами, каперсами и моцареллой на гриле 2) Говяжья вырезка с чёрным чесноком и фиолетовой пай-картошки 3) Творожный десерт со свеклы под лавандовым одеялком. На протяжении всего вечера Алексей Сидоров будет делиться с гостями положительными эмоциями и полезными знаниями. Алексей – шеф-повар киевского ресторана Reconquista. On the ground level of OUE Downtown is the brand new Takayama Japanese restaurant. Opened for business on Monday this week, it is helmed by Chef @taro.g.sin who was previously, the Chef for the Japanese Ambassador to Singapore for three years.
The open kitchen here is in line with the casual “kappo” style (“to cut and cook”) of Japanese multi-course cuisine. However as Chef Taro explained, because he’s trained in the formal Kaiseki style, Takayama is actually a blend of both. I could tell that from the lunch I had here today.
From the three options available, I chose the Kumamoto Wagyu Beef ($98++). The other options were Stewed Agu Pork ($68++) and Bigeye Snapper ($78++).
Each set comes with Housemade Tofu topped with Uni, a platter of Seasonal Otsukuri” (mixed sashimi), Seasonal Appetiser and a Housemade Dessert. I found everything to be of excellent quality. For eg. the thick cuts of Chutoro sashimi was ultra smooth and soft while the grilled pieces of Wagyu beef were literally butter-in-the-mouth.
More options will be added to the lunch menu soon. Ditto the dinner menu which only offers a $280++ meal at the moment. Two more, a $190++ and a $380++ will be made available in the near future as well.

When Mark Wiens of @migrationology deems this the best breakfast he ate in Vietnam, you know you have to add this into your itinerary even if it means waking up early for it. In true Mark Wiens style, this local Vietnamese breakfast was a wholesome and comforting breakfast that makes the traveling there all the more worthwhile. Once reached, you will be ushered into one of their makeshift tables by the roadside and they have provided tiny stools that might be slightly uncomfortable from the first sitting. However, to be truly immersed in the Vietnamese street food culture, this is as authentic of an experience as you can get anywhere else.
Moving on the Bánh Mì Ôp La, which is what most if not all diners will usually order, is a personal skillet of sunny side up eggs with slices of ham and sausages, served with toasted baguette. Tear apart the baguette, break the egg yolks and stack it up with some meat, and it will be a bite of euphoria and sheer pleasure. Best breakfast in Saigon? This definitely gets my vote for it.
