“ Our lovely little Sugarhouse neighborhood hosts a brunch and parade on 4th of July mornings. Pancakes at the church down the street, then parents line the curbs and kids ride by on bikes. When it's all done, we gather on Alden Street for carnival games and ice cream, everyone milling about, making friends, commenting on how hot the weather is, no one in any hurry to go anywhere at all. The park across the street hosts a fireworks display at dark. Tonight we'll likely sit outside on the upstairs deck of our newly (finally!) renovated #RatchetManor and watch the lights and colors rise.
The Fourth in Salt Lake City is pretty magical. Would love to hear what it's like in your corner.

Posting some old archives. Since m original IG was hacked and had over 2,000 entries. Luckily I have all of my photos from the last 12 years backed up.
I didn't realize how many people from Australia I follow on IG until their #marriageequality surveys started arriving in the mail this week. It's bringing back a lot of emotions from two years ago as @jessjacks and I prepared for our wedding and awaited the #SCOTUS decision. We watched and waited as others debated the validity and legality of our relationship. .
As I think about those in Australia who are watching and waiting now, I want to share this reflection about our wedding. It will continue into the comments, as it's too long for the character limit, haha. .
Australians, #VoteYes because #LoveMustWin .
"On July 4th, 2015, just days after marriage equality became the law of the land, I married my partner of nearly 10 years. We pledged to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor. .
Our minister preached these words: .
"Jackie and Jess: the first word to say to you, on behalf of all of us gathered here: is that your joy is our joy and our joy is full. This marriage has been a long time in coming … but the various and sundry delays have only conspired to bring together this more perfect union on the anniversary of our nation’s birth. Because we are at Old South Church – the church most responsible for this nation’s quest for freedom – because we are here in this house on this day, allow me to reflect on the nature of this moment (this wedding, this ceremony) which is both inescapably private and inexorably public. ...
"You will never have this day with your children again. Tomorrow they will be a little bigger then they were today. This day is a gift. Breathe and notice. Smell and touch them; study their faces and little feet and pay attention. Relish the charms of the present. Enjoy today mama. It will be over before you know it." - Jen Hatmaker
I got to meet the sweet mama of 5 tonight and she was so loving a patient with her little ones. I captured so many sweet images, I had a hard time choosing, but I kept going back to this one. Her baby.
