This was the same basic lighting set-up as the wide I posted last week, except I turned off the 800 that was now behind camera, to keep some shape to the light. I chose Urban Sodium gel for the 'fire' sources on the bad guys because CTO felt too warm and cozy! #framefriday
Back to moodier things. I loved these little in coves throughout the housing complexes. They were gateways to another world and gave way to really unique viewpoints of other structures and into different people's lives (which also reminded me of that upside down maze scene in the Labyrinth)
The first thing I like doing when I get to set is to go and walk around the entire area. Even if I've been there before and scouted (or in this case seen videos of the location and been suggested where to shoot) I feel it good to really get a feel for the environment, for vantages, fresh perspectives and possible better spots for staging a scene. Sometimes the conditions on the day or the general energy can spark new ideas and for me at least, can break my mind out of the rigid mindset that looking at shot lists / storyboards / lighting diagrams can put you in. I strongly believe that preparation is so important to being comfortable and confident on the day but I also feel it's good to break free from what you've planned and let your mind wander; engaging and really letting yourself live instinctually with the content.
Capturing the athletes in the moment is not always easy. But it takes experience and professionalism to nail shoots like this! @donovanskelton is the man behind the 🎥 that keeps nailing these perfect angles. Thanks for all the hard work you put into filming us wildchild's. Looking forward to 17/18 season.

I love shooting sledding. But what really makes it are the people because I'm no Cody Borchers but @borchairs sure is !
Back in September 2015, director Jesse Rosenberg, co-cinematographer Michael Swaigen, and myself embarked on a 12-day journey to tell the story of three-time cancer survivor, Susan Helmrich.
Susan is the co-event director for Swim Across America - a non-profit organisation that raises funds for cancer research & awareness.
Thank you to the cast & crew that made this project possible. It was an honour & privilege to tell Susan's endearing story. A special thank you to Swim Across America and their entire team!

Hey check it out Noel Miller, Taylor Dale and I recently formed a production unit and we are finally launching our first short film! It would mean a lot if you could scope the GoFundMe, spread the word and get involved! We are real proud of what we've been cooking up this year and we hope to get as many of our friends, family, and colleagues as possible to join us on this ride. LINK IN BIO
