So I often rave on about the huge impact and benefit of having a coach or a 3rd party to oversee and plan your progression. I've benefitted hugely from this and I know many others on the same boat. I decided to share a few of my thoughts on the matter as choosing a coach is quite difficult. Now you've decided to part with your very hard earned cash for their services, you'll firstly need someone who you can easily talk with. So they need to have a positive personality, be easy to meet, contact or discuss stuff with. If you want to focus on strength or body composition then they should have some track record. So look for a credible level of expertise for what you want to achieve. Since it's a ruthless market which is in flux with zero barriers to entry for competition your in a very strong position as a buyer so look at pricing and what your going to get for your cash. If they ain't going to give you 100% value with their attention then walk away. How will you know this ahead of signing up? Look at the quality of their social media posts, and how professionally put together they are. Are they informative and well constructed, are their email responses prompt and professional? How much detailed questioning are they putting you through in that initial consultation? Ask them loads of questions and see how they respond! How do they take notes? Is it the back of an envelope or have they a dedicated file for each client? Trial them for a limited period. What's their timekeeping like, are they punctual? Look at their existing clients and notice the level they're at. Ask about their PT sessions, how well they are organised, or how regularly they take/require measurements/updates. How regularly you can expect a new nutrition/training plan? How well do they manage expectations while setting ambitious goals.  How are they at achieving goals in general with clients in a given timeframe? Each client will have their own perspective, some are more committed than others but a good coach will have their total confidence whereas there will be hesitancy if there are issues. This business is primarily based on word of mouth so listen carefully to the word on the street!

I'm absolutely overwhelmed with amount of gratitude from people in the recent weeks โค๏ธ I'm blown away by every single kind word, complement or some old&new friends who reached out to me. To hear that I could inspire/ motivate others it's simply mind blowing๐Ÿ˜ I always treat others with respect, dignity and love- the same way as I would like to be treated in return. For me everyone is a friend from the start and you really have to mess things up so I would call you a cunt and delete your phone number ๐Ÿ˜‚ Those who know me, know how much love, appreciation I have for others - I don't see bad things about people, as I always try to bring the best out of them. Life is like that, there's always going to be set backs, the important thing is to not get fall down and stay there. Often it's nowhere near as bad as you think, and there's always those around you to help you forward.

One of the great things about regular training is it will change the way your body works, there's nothing wrong with enjoying an occasional holiday, weekend or whatever else crops up in your life, as long as it's not EVERY weekend.

And in Molly's case, despite not even seeing the gym and eating terribly for a week and half (for various reasons), he still managed to keep under that magical 70kg mark.

On a completely seperate note from fitness because yes there is other important aspects to my life, there are so much changes taking place for me when I come home. Between moving away from my current job in the homeless sector where I love working to going back to college to study Psychology (meaning I will be broke) it is fair to say that I am taking a bit of a risk ๐Ÿค”

Changes are something that we shouldn't be afraid of though. Although, it is impossible, not to fear the unknown. Realistically nothing different, new and potentially positive will come into your life unless you accept change and take risks.

Testing day for weightlifting client @emmet_tr. He managed to hit the 75kg Snatch goal that we set during this wave. Then attempted 80kg for the "craic" because it sounded better than 75lg, but just missed it. But it'll be there next time for sure! Then PR'd the Clean and Jerk and Squat Clean too.

I've nearly 6 weeks done on a new plan but today seamed to be the first most difficult day of all ๐Ÿ™ˆ What amazes me that I was fine when I was buying Blanka ๐Ÿฆor making french toast or toasts with nutella ๐Ÿ˜‚ I manage okay buying coffee in La Petit and resisting all these fab ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฉ I resisted all the sweets in friends house ๐Ÿ™ˆ but today when another friend called into me with a special vegan, clean sugar free hazelnut cake which she got especially for me I have no idea how&where I got strength to say NO ๐Ÿ˜… having a reality check with my injury this morning and feeling bit down cause of it, I just had a quick flash through my head about my goals. I thought of all those wonderful people who inspire me every day @sinead_yy @irish_smilers @millatrix @monika_kotecka_fitness ๐Ÿ˜Šof @lisawalsh16 & @shaunadiamond โค๏ธwho not that long ago shared the same journey. So this won't mean much to you guys who follow me purely for my fitness journey posts which I usually have. But a huge aspect of my life is spent working on artificial intelligence research with my team of Masters and PhD students who I supervise. I have 9 PhD students and the first one I recruited early in my academic career has just submitted his PhD thesis after 3.5 years. I'm so proud of Patrick and the way his PhD has progressed, I knew from the very start he would be a huge success. And I knew if I met my obligations as a good supervisor then he would thrive as he always had huge ability and a great attitude. Fundamental to the whole process is meeting students regularly and measuring small incremental targets so progression can be easily monitored by everyone. I strongly believe in treating students like adults and it's a relationship based around respect on both sides. I always say things like they are, I never mince my words and I make expectations clear from the very start and at regular intervals. There's no need for the process to be a mystery, where nobody knows where they stand and students are left in the dark without meaningful feedback for months on end. Progression and milestones are key to making the entire process work. Many students fall away, become disillusioned and end up wasting so much unfulfilled potential as these basic principles are not followed. I simply won't operate under any mechanism other than this one. Students make a massive leap of faith and commitment to study for a masters or PhD under a supervisor. That trust must be respected and appreciated by all involved in the process. I look at how students moral can ebb and flow over a long period of a thesis, and the supervisor really needs to be closely involved if this is to be managed correctly and ultimately if the whole thesis is to be a success. Well done Patrick, I don't think a PhD thesis was ever so easy to supervise and manage due to our no nonsense approach to the process! Patrick now lectures Computing in GMIT and has a very bright future ahead of him. His PhD will be examined before Christmas when we expect his viva-voce defence to be scheduled! ๐Ÿ‘

Well for a few weeks there it has felt like I was really just plodding along. For ages I didn't know what was wrong as maybe it was a mix of it being summertime, the after effects of travel or some allergies. But finding out I had a virus made total sense and I can now really feel energy levels returning. Today I'm bouncing around with energy and feel like I smashed my workout this morning. Cardio is no longer feeling like such a chore and my measurements are moving in the right direction again. So alls good and patience has paid off. Looking forward to our annual lads trip away for a long weekend in Lisbon in about a weeks time and that should replenish the system with some badly needed vitamin D atleast. Then the start of a new college term when my daily routines will change up slightly again but not too much I hope.

Earlier today we got the chance to catch up with two old friends of mine Jeff and Yvonne. Two of the most positive and friendly people your ever likely to meet. Got to meet and spend time with little Ezra and Thea also over a bite to eat in town. Back when I was down in the doldrums of life in general I could always rely on these guys to drag me into town and meet up. Their own enthusiasm and success with training was hugely influential in making me prioritise this fitness lifestyle and use it as a mechanism for a stronger and better mindset in life. During those difficult days of my early career struggles I always had Jeff and Yvonne as a mechanism to vent, and let off steam. Recently we haven't had much time to hang out together as life got in the way but today it was like we had only met yesterday and took up where we left off. I recall them dragging me along to Ocean Fitness or their own garage gym for workouts, and it all helped sow the seeds for everything I now do at the gym. I followed their advice and got a coach. At the time I made it my own private project and set my own targets. For ages they never knew I was quietly working away on this very personal fitness journey. To meet up today and update them on my training and nutrition was a pure joy. My overall health and mindset is infinitely stronger thanks to these two and so many others who have helped me along the way. Life's heros come in all shapes and sizes but for most of the past 10 years these two have been a rock of help and support throughout. I remember Jeff bringing me along to one of his tattoo sessions a few years ago and again in the back of my mind I said when I have the physique I want I'll get some cool ink to reward myself. Again it was all in the back of my mind and I just needed to find the time and capacity to make it a reality. So thanks again you two, I'll never have you paid back! The side leg series in pilates works the glutes, hips, and thighs, but the most important part (and most overlooked) is to stabilize your core while performing these exercises.
Naval to spine throughout.
You donโ€™t want your upper body wobbling all over the place, while you are performing the movements with your leg.
I shortened the reps to fit the video clip but I would recommend doing 6 to 8 reps of each exercise to really activate the glute

Started at 75kg to the right.... down to 62.9kg today! ๐Ÿค— it's still slow and steady and some days I notice absolutely no change in myself and some days I do.. At the end of every single day I always find myself saying "ah if only i gave that 100% today..๐Ÿ˜‘"

To all students opening their leaving cert results today, especially those who are bricking it. ๐Ÿ“š

Remember these results do not define you,  YOU define YOU!

Do not allow today devastate you, do not make any irrational decisions, do not allow yourself feel you can't cope, today is simply numbers on a page. Today will be history tomorrow. 
As paramedics ๐Ÿš‘ we have seen all too often the tragedy that can happen when today doesn't turn out as quite planned. 
TRAGEDY - An event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident 
Don't become history. 
Accept the results you read this morning, control your reaction, now decide exactly how you want to achieve greatness; 
Plan thoroughly.
Believe.
Persevere. 
Accept set backs. 
Recover. 
Dig deep.
Succeed. 
You WILL be whatever YOU want to be! 
At 17 I was young, lazy & did just enough to 'get by' thus obtaining a mediocre leaving cert. 
This had no effect on how my life turned out. 
In fact it taught me that I now control every aspect of my future, so I implemented the above, had to work a bit harder but today I own two developing businesses (soon to be three) I work full-time in a rewarding but challenging medical career, have been fortunate enough to have had a successful sporting background & I am going to college (again ๐Ÿ™ˆ) To everyone else I am probably fighting a never-ending uphill battle and I have heard the words 'you can't' a lot, even in sport but to me negativity is fear, I am exactly where I am supposed to be right now and most importantly I am happy. 
So smile and enjoy today! Your future is bright!

Here in Ireland the media will spend most of today talking about the infamous Leaving Certificate #CAO points. The annual frenzy over university places will occur. Unfortunately very few people will actually reflect on the fact that not everyone is suited or best served by a largely academic and impractical study over a 3-4 year period at one of our colleges or universities. Some of the most successful and happiest people I know don't have a degree or don't use their degree and instead set up businesses, go into trades or pursue their passions in life. And remarkably due to pursuing their passion, they are both happy and successful! In my job as a university lecturer, I lecture about 1000 students each academic year, and while I always look forward to seeing all those new faces, I'm also horrified that might be sitting there in front of me and trying to pass my module while knowing this degree is not right for them. A third level experience should be both enjoyable, fulfilling and beneficial, and when it ticks those boxes then it can be truely amazing. So don't be pushed into something you don't want. Instead invest loads of time and headspace into finding what you really do want out of your life and career! Get passionate about something and learn more about how best to incorporate it into your life and maybe a very fulfilling career will emerge sooner than you think.
