Alright boys and girls! Here's a great Core Stability exercise to add!

Keys to the movement:

Activate your core musculature throughout the whole movement. Raise your opposite arm with opposite leg and maintain stability from start to finish. It's important to not over extend either the moving arm or leg during movement as was demonstrated in my second extension.

Want to kick it up a notch? Throw a kid on your back and maintain the same level of stability!! Make sure your cores strong enough or you'll have some explaining to do when he falls off. 😂😂 👍💪🤸

The single leg deadlift is great to fix imbalances of strength in both legs. I love doing the single leg deadlift when I'm trying to work for volume. The muscle being worked during a single leg deadlift is the Hamstrings, Quadriceps, Abdominal, and the Latissimus Doris. 😄💪🏼

Doing lat pulldowns behind the neck like this puts us in a few precarious positions. .
📪Naturally, our shoulder is best moved through the SCAPULAR PLANE ↖️. This is about 30 degrees in front of the frontal plane. (Raise your arm out to your side, level with your shoulder, then move it forward about 30 degrees). When the arm is raised through the scapular plane, the humerus has enough room to move freely 🔃 and clear the acromion (the roof of the shoulder). This allows optimal, pain free motion that avoids mashing the rotator cuff into the acromion and creating impingement. 💢😣

🚫The issue with the behind the neck pull down, and any behind the neck movement, is that we place our shoulders into EXTERNAL ROTATION. This places our humerus, subacromial bursa, and soft tissues onto a direct path to collision ➡️⬅️with our acromion. We've decreased the amount of room in the subacromial space and so when we raise our arm out to the side into ABDUCTION ⤴️ we end up mashing that soft tissue and bursa in between our humerus and acromion. This is a dynamite recipe for shoulder impingement, but shoulder impingement tastes like garbage. You don't want to try shoulder impingement.

When coupled with a forward head posture, since many people who do these don't even have the flexibility to get into the external rotation required for the movement, you also get a nasty shoulder and neck strain.

Day 8 (last day ☹️) of #igniteyourinnerfire is #flyingpigeonpose I’ve been practicing this pose for a over a year now and I love it. It was SO HARD for me in the beginning (I mentioned the face plants in a previous post), but #practicemakesprogress  Now I can practice it on my @pono.ola balance board. This pose always reminds me that I can do anything if I never give up. I took @paigeheldyoga ‘s Core 45 class today and about 30 mins in, she said, “At this point, I know you’re like, fuck this class, fuck this girl, I can’t do this. But you can. You will get stronger if you keep going.” She said some other amazingly eloquent words that I don’t want to try to quote and get wrong, but she’s totally right. It’s so easy to try a pose, fall out of it and say, “fuck this”. What makes us stronger is how many times we get our asses back up in the pose and try again. And again. And again. So often in life we get frustrated and just say “fuck it”. That’s the ego talking. Let that shit go and realize that the hard things in life teach us the lessons to get to the good things in life. So no bulking and cutting cycles for me.
I stay shredded all year round.

It's chest day at the youth center.  This picture means a lot more than it looks.  I've been working on increasing my bench ORM (one rep max). I'm not at my goal yet, but I keep inching it towards the goal.  For me, this is 225 (basically 2-45#s on each side, plus bar). I'm confident I will reach it.  Of course, the other thing is application.  I want to also be able to do a pull up by the end of the year.  It's another thing I haven't been able to do since I was younger (11 years and counting to be exact). Despite being very low on motivation at the moment, I dragged myself out to @kraftvrk tonight, and used weightlifting as meditation 💆🏼

Had zero expectations for today, but ended up building to a snatch double at 50kg (rehab PR), and a clean&jerk at 60 (also rehab PR - of course my phone died in the process, so you get a warm up lift at 45 😜)
