Day twenty of Inktober!
I swear I did this before watching today's Bake Off Italy episode! Also, I should have used watercolor paper.
#giappone
The alarm went off quite early that day.
Not more than 4 hours of sleep, the "asageiko" was in my list since long time.
I should have arrived in that gym not later than 8.
I didn't have a clear address, I was just told to get off at Hamacho metro station -somewhere in the outskirts of Tokyo - then I would have easily found the place. "You are not allowed to enter - but from the window facing the street you'll be able to see the wrestlers and take amazing photos." While in the metro I was already visualizing the shots I was about to take.
Huge Sumo wrestlers in black&white, strictly analog, fighting in front of me, almost naked, their satanic almond eyes facing directly my lens. "Wow".
It wasn't easy to find the gym, I had to speak the "smile language" with many people before being able to stand in front of that "sorry we are closed" sign sticked on the door. My watch was showing 7:58, I still remember it. "Fuck!" - that's the only word I could swear.
Later that day I was told that after the National Sumo Tournament, ended up just few days before, all wrestlers have 2 weeks of rest.
That's probably why I met so many Sumo wrestlers in the nightlife of Tokyo.
That's probably why I met this huge fighter - I assume a very famous one considering the evident bows of the people meeting him - riding this little bike.
Yeah, funny. And the guy was super happy to pose for me. Amazing!
So true: you lose something, you find something - else.
Once again, lesson learned.
