So I decided to stick closer to home on this trip and chose a small Scottish island on the west coast called Arran. Right at the beginning of January, when all is quiet and the tourists are done with new years, here I was with this amazing island as my back yard for a few days.
This photo was taken on the highest peak on the isle, Goatfell. It stands at 874m. It's not the most challenging hike I've ever done but certainly one of the most spectacular for scenery and views. On the way up you pass through a magical forest, it was almost fairy tale like, thick green moss covering the ground as well as the bottoms of the trees. And then you suddenly exit the forest into a huge open space and there is the mountain right in front of you. From there it is a moderate level hike up to the summit.
From the summit of Goatfell you overlook all of the other peaks in the area as well as the ones in the distance on the mainland. This photo is looking north towards the mainland and the other neighboring isles. It's one of the most incredible views I've seen. This is also down to the time of year I chose to go.
So there you have it, this little trip has definitely got me hooked to this part of the world, I shall be back for some island hopping that's for sure. ✌️❤️💚💛
