Today, marks 11 years since my kidney transplant. If feels just like yesterday when started my journey at the U of M Children’s Hospital. Thanks to my Aunt (my Guardian Angel) I have been blessed with good health over these past 11 years. This wouldn’t have been possible without all the wonderful people in my corner. I am extremely confident that the simple ways we take care of ourselves trickle into our psyche. The methods of taking care of ourselves and our mental health will change throughout the different phases of our lives. But one thing that should remain consistent is good nutrition and some type of physical activity.
When I became a mom back in 2011, fitness was my savior. It gave me a sense of empowerment and freedom. It was something I could identify myself with outside of my home. The gym became my little place away from home where I felt like a human. My passion became so strong that I NEEDED to share it. I blogged, I attained certifications to help others, I started a "fitness page" on Instagram, bla bla bla. And as the years went by, "fitness & wellness" became something very different.
It became a stage to show off how "beast" you can be. How limiting you can be with your nutrition and food intake without complaining. How many friends you can lose because you are just THAT FOCUSED. How many sacrifices you can make to be the leanest person on your social media feed.
My goal is to end this trend - create a "Change in the Well"ness industry, if you will. 😜
I want to take it back to the love of feeling good, and genuinely wanting others to know how amazing they can feel with proper nutrition and good old fashioned endorphins.
I don't want to inspire anyone to have a bigger booty, a smaller waist, or less body fat. I want to inspire you to have a bigger heart, a smaller capacity for self-doubt, and less to stress over.
To lessen anxiety and improve mindfulness. To workout when it feels good, cuz it can feel really good. But don't when it doesn't. To eat for good health, but to drink the wine, and bake the damn cookies. To count your blessings more often than your calories.
Good health doesn't have to be all or nothing. In fact, if we want overall health and balance, we must find that perfect place in between.
How I’m feeling this morning on the first new moon of the year. Up before the sun and ready to make moves. Feeling unstoppable the last couple weeks and woke today with a smile on my face. Feelings of clarity are beginning to wash over me. Diving back deeper into my journey inward and seeing things with fresh eyes again. On this new moon, realign your sights on yourself. How are you treating yourself kindly? How can you give your body the best care and attention it deserves every single day? And understand that by doing so you are helping others, by helping yourself. The quality of your well-being will reflect in others. How can we possibly care for others if we have not cared for ourselves first?
