Dear Graduate & Professional Students,
You chose to go a step beyond & Yes it's hard! It's not just hard for you, we all understand how hard it is at this point and how it will be throughout this process. Know that we are here with you, we are rooting for you, & at this moment we applaud you for making it to this point. Continue to work hard and move forward until you reach your dreams. Be the best that you can while giving everything that you have. We will see you at the finish line, & we will be ecstatic, because as I mentioned before we are on the same journey so we know, we feel, & we hold the same faith that the stars will align in our favor, & we will succeed!

#lyftedtalk with Bob (name change, as he wishes to remain anonymous, as to not jeapordize his career)
He's a grad student, working on cancer research.
Upon hearing that he's a grad student, I ask if he's familiar with the tax reform recently passed in Congress.
Oh, YES! He's AWARE, many grad students are talking about it.
These grad students are being paid a stipend for their work. He's on the higher end, receiving $30,000 for his research. many of his colleagues only receive a little over $20,000. He also receives a tuition deferment.
The new tax reform moving into the Senate will tax the tuition as income. This means that many students will go from paying $2-3k to $10,000 in taxes, on a $20,000 stipend.
He commented, "This impacts a low number of the population. It won't equal out to big dollars of tax revenue for the government." I'm grateful for year REAL conversations, seeing how the government is impacting the lives of all of us. Cancer research, the research of grad students, this impacts ALL of us.
What are YOUR thoughts? #taxgradstudents for tuition and stipendor not? #taxreform#gradstudents
— You could probably make your way in the world just by reading.. But it’s A LOT easier, a lot faster, and a lot MORE fun to build your career with support from people more experienced than you.😊 #mentorshipmatters

#forms#Letras#ensaio#graduation#gradstudents#teachers
We are really stepping up our sleeping game tonight with the La Quinta in South Padre! Kyle has to take an exam this afternoon in which they monitor you from your webcam and you have to be alone in the room. The van was obviously not going to work for this. So after an extensive search of pet friendly hotels and Airbnbs for the night we wound up at La Quinta. It’s super nice, we have a gigantic room with a balcony and view of the ocean, there is no ridiculous pet fee, and they have a business center that I️ am able to use while Kyle takes his exam. All this for under $100! This is not an ad. But it probably should be. I️ can’t wait to check out the pool and drink a margarita when I’m done with my paper! #losingourmarbles#marblesthedog#mba#gradstudents#gradstudentsontheroad#laquinta#spi#southpadreisland#petfriendly#laquintasouthpadreisland#takingabreakfromvanlife#roadtrip @laquintahotels

Huge shoutout to #bcssw students, @nicole_sandonato and @hannahrachelb , for helping facilitate the Office of Graduate Student Life's GPS (Goals. Purpose. Success) retreat @bc_ogsl @hannahrachelb said, "I'm so glad I was able to make time to build a community and share my story with first year students and fellow facilitators. Last year's retreat was a turning point for me as a grad student, and I was so grateful to be able to come back!" @nicole_sandonato added, "It was really about building the time and space for myself and other graduate students to pause and reflect about who we are today and what transitions, relationships, and detours brought us here. I hope the students who attended got as much out of GPS as I did as a facilitator getting to hear their beautiful and challenging stories of what it means to be a graduate student at BC." Hannah and Nicole, we are sure the other students got so much out of having you as facilitators and sharing your stories!
