Throwback Thursday...Waaaay back!
This Chinese Dragon has been done in a low relief style. Depth and contrasts. I devised a special shaped punch to give the scales a slightly raised lip.
#2 --Steve Lindsay and Adone Pozzobon' were huge inspiration for me back 20 years ago because what they did was a mystery. Exceptional and incredible Masters they are but I began to diverge from their path once I realized how incredibly shallow The engraving is. I found out that style wasn't applicable to the work I was wanting to do. A hard wearing piece of jewellery requires some deeper engraving. This piece was where I realized some of its limitations. From here on forward I moved towards a deeper , low relief style.
#3 this customer wanted a wedding band with an infinity symbol mixed with flowers from her province. .
#4 rare is the time I do portraits as I find them very challenging. There really is no end to them. The thing about portraits is that unless you're exceptional, if it's off just a bit it will always bother you. There's no room for error.
#5 couple comes in desperate for matching platinum Celtic bands. Pay a fortune for them.. rush, rush ,rush... Month later they break up and he wants sell them back.
#6 wedding band for a friend, 20 plus years ago.
#7 slide on first Rifle I engraved , '95 Winchester. Can barely stomach showing it to you... Blech!
#8 one of my favorite pieces from long ago. Customer gave me the doughnut piece and said do whatever you want. I just got into a groove and came up with this. Once again low relief.
#9 my second rifle. Was my early attempt at a classic Winchester style. A little stiff and the animals aren't very good but I've seen it somewhat recently and once it was all blued up and part of a whole piece, it holds up okay. Once it's all done (wood and barrel added ) it's just one small part of a big project.
#10 an idea I had and made.. once again more towards a low relief sculpting.
