The Old Christner Cemetery.
This pioneer cemetery can be found on Christner Road, one road north of the town of New Hamburg,
Wilmot Township, Ontario, Canada.
The cemetery became neglected and overgown but in 2008, the Township of Wilmot began to care for the grounds and they are now in good shape.
Johannes "John" Christner, his wife Maria and their 4 children immigrated to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in America in 1825 from the Alsace region of France. They only lived there a few months as they decided to continue north to Canada where they arrived in October 1825. In March 1840, they moved to a lot not far from where they are buried. John Christner lived to be 90 years old. His wife predeceased him by 30 years.
Looks like a pretty serene place for an evening walk, doesn’t it? It was, until Billie Jean pulled the leash so hard (squirrel) that I tripped, dropped a big ol’ bag of dog poo, and stepped on the big ol’ bag of dog poo. There was a loud “pop” when the bag exploded, and well...I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination. It was kind of the icing (or the dog shit) on the cake to my week. Thank god the week is almost over. Happy Friday, people.
