for this, flower and watcher have not
waited or prepared, but merely lived
and the time of bloom has come.
for whose delight? the watcher gives
his sole certainty: "for mine." and what
depends upon this small culmination?
an ecologist of sorts, the watcher
does not know, but by its beauty
he is taught to answer: "everything."
this is the sabbath, the place, the rest,
from which we go to work. from here
the economies and politics of husbandry
are quietly attested in the heart.
WENDELL BERRY • from sabbath poems
as a largely non-religious, pagan-leaning, plant witch of a person, i have to admit the concept of the sabbath is one that resonates with me (my UU-ness coming out strongly here). especially in the way that wendell berry describes it here: the place, the rest, from which we go to work.
i have been turning over that concept of source, of drawing from something innate and vast within ourselves, and what it looks like to try and act and live directly from that place. that's the spirit in which i try to approach my direct service work, and as i grapple with our national emergency i am finding too that i need to draw from that source more often to sustain myself, my work, and my community. that's where the idea of sabbath has found me. the idea of taking a full day to visit with that source, that place from which i seek to work; to align myself once more with my principles and take an inventory of self; that idea is calling out to me, some.
today i suppose i meet you with an offering. i know that we are weary. i'm weary. so in the light of this still new moon, may we return to center. may we continue to align ourselves with what is true and right; to align ourselves with living things over money and greed. may we have the courage to dismantle structures that keep so many oppressed. and may we find rest, and take time to draw from whatever source drives us - whether it be the spirit of activism and justice; trauma-resiliency and -protection stories; myth and inner knowing; wild ways and old traditions; community and love; or others; or all of the above. #wendellberry
I decided that as a tea-loving hedgewitch I needed a new special cup to sip tasty herbal infusions... and what better than a nettle cup with a lovely dragonfly!?!?

👁🥀 I Cast A Spell On You. 🕯In the glow of candlelight, two star-crossed souls come together. Who will ignite the spell to set their love ablaze? Inspired by Victorian times, an embroidered patch to present your betrothed, cast your spell and wear your adoration on your sleeve. ❤️
I called upon onion, lemon, turmeric, garlic, ginger, jalapeño, and horseradish, mixed intentionally with apple cider vinegar, to join their healing properties together and bless us with fire cider for when we feel ill in the cold season to come. Mother Earth is so good to us, gifting plants that encourage our bodies to heal. ✨
