First wine opened after returning home from a forced "vacation" to Oakland had to be a #Bucklin#Grenache . Visited Old Hill Ranch and met Will the day before the fires started. Thankfully this vineyard, Sonoma's oldest, mostly survived. Grateful to have a home to return to, and ready to help rebuilding for those who don't! #sonomastrong#sonomafires
48 pavor i lager just nu (295:- ex). #gramercycellars#grenache#washingtonstate#thirdmangrenache#2014#wawine

#Vivino#Wine Great cost performance with this #Spanish#Grenache . Spicy and sweet with a smooth finish. I'm giving it 4 of 5 stars with the #Vivino app: http://www.vivino.com/users/steve_2/reviews/79150776?utm_source=app
And that's goodnight on another epic day in Cellar Door. Big thanks to everyone who joined us today, your excitement & enthusiasm for Grenache & the Jimmy win has been incredible. What a blast it has been sharing this moment with you all.
Looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow!
Served blind at around 16 degrees in a burgundy shaped glass, it first appeared like a deep and intense Pinot Noir with just a touch of oak. My guess was of course totally wrong. With some air and a slightly higher temperature my mistake became obvious, still the elegant rose and raspberry notes stayed in the wine, but now with addition of spicies, liquorice and a earthy note, as well as a slightly warm alcool touch in the finish that took the wine to its rigth origin, the south part of the Rhône valley. The Avril family have been winegrowers since the 1700s, and when they bottled their first vintage and founded the Domaine Clos des Papes in 1896, they became one of first wine estates in the area. Paul Vincent Avril was born in 1965, he started to work at the domaine in 1988 and took over after his father Paul Avril in 2009. Today they are one of the best estates in the appellation. From 24 plots of 35 hectares in total, they make two wines, a white Chateauneuf-du-Pape from 4 hectares, and this outstanding and very elegant 2014 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards has always been organically farmed, and since 2010 they are also certified as biodynamic. This wine is made of approximately 65 percent Grenache, 20 percent Mourvèdre, 10 percent Syrah and 5 percent of mixed grapes. They are all fully destemmed, hence the pure red fruit and silky texture, then fermented in steel tanks followed by a 15 months élévage in foudres. It's bottled without being fined or filtered. The 2014 is not ranked as a top vintage, that's why the wine is a bit lighter, more elegant and burgundy like compared to warmer vintages - and to me that finesse is the sign of a very good vintage.
