Parsva Kukkutasana or Side Full Lotus arm balance is very far from something I’m able to do right now, but other side arm balances like side crow, Dwi Pada and Twisting Scissors are already pretty easy for me. I wanted to find something harder to work on. When I saw #reversegrasshopper pose on insta, I thought “I can do that!” But, nope. I tried it and could barely connect my thigh to my arm. It took me about a month of work to get to a couple seconds of balance, and I still can’t extend the leg straight. So, I’ve found my Goldilocks pose - not too easy, not too hard. Just the right amount of challenge for me right now.
Ardha Parsva Kukkutasana or Half Twisted Lotus balance for Day 17 of the @cyogalab #yogachallenge#AYearOfYoga2018
Day 17 of #AYearOfYoga2017
Today's pose is #lotuspose in #sidecrow .
This is still a challenge for me...
Three years ago I joined this challenge. Last year I decided to shift my focus to on longer holds and building strength.
This year I was able to get to #halflotus . Still a work progress. One breath at a time.🍾 🙏

#lotuspose is one of those poses that has been an ongoing struggle.. so any chance I get to throw a #lotus / #halflotus in my practice I’ll take it, just so I have another opportunity to stretch my hips out and get them more familiar with how this should feel.
This #sideplank variation is one I am DETERMINED to get! One day I am going to be able to reach my foot with my hand! 👍🏼
Here’s a total beginner’s look at my first goal pose - half lotus or Ardha Padmasana. Note this this is NOT how the pose should look ha. This is just to show y’all where I’m starting. As y’all know one of my New Year’s resolutions has been to practice yoga. I used to do yoga daily but gave it up to lift for about 2ish years. So I lost all flexibility that I had worked so hard to get. I mean I wouldn’t even stretch for months at a time which makes about zero sense. I just wanted to be open about being a beginner again and being okay with it. Yoga is for everyone, especially people with zero flexibility, haha.
So I began January starting all of my yoga in easy pose, but recently I decided I’d like to conquer full lotus. The biggest reason is because I have a lot of knee problems that I believe stems from needing to stretch my knees and hips. This pose stretches my knees, thighs, hips and especially my ankles (which you can see by my toes not wanting to relax into the position.)
Anyway, I try to warm up into this position by rocking back and forth in easy pose, then taking turns putting one foot over the other thigh while my opposite leg is straight just to open up my hips. You can also put a yoga block or rolled up towel under your knee for more support. Another great way to work on this pose is to sit in a chair and put one foot on the opposite thigh while leaving your other foot planted on the ground. I would definitely say that you shouldn’t rush into this pose. Sometimes I’m so tight (esp in mornings) that I just decide to stay in easy pose or perfect pose and not push it.
So here’s my first look at one of my yoga goals! I’ll update on how it’s going soon, and hopefully next time, I’ll be able to sit comfortably in half! Then after that, on to full lotus! Namaste, friends.

Ooh I struggled with this one more than I thought I would. Turns out I really round my back rather than lengthen my spine to fold further 😖. Nobody wants to see that. So I went for a walk had a little think and whipped this half lotus #forwardfold out for day 7 of #gracefullystrongyogis3 when I got home. 🧘🏻♀️
With the generous sponsors...
Don't move the way fear makes you move. Move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move.
Just wanted to share even when getting the perfect picture of the perfect pose, the path towards perfection is...not so perfect 😜 and that's ok. If your too afraid to try you will never know what you can accomplish, and if you fall do it joyfully, lovingly, not beat yourself up, just keep trying, maybe eventually you get it, maybe not, but the point is to never give up, and enjoy every moment of the journey 🙏
Hi my name is Laila, and in my spare time I like to do yoga and be an extra for Aslan the lion on Chronicles of Narnia 😂
All hair jokes aside, do any of you yogis ever see badass boss yogis on ig who make stuff look so simple that just... isn’t 😕
Well, for me, it’s lotus. It seems so simple but I just can’t get there. I literally see these amazing yogis who can get into lotus while they are in a handstand - it’s amazing! So I’ve been working on stretching and trying it every single day. I’m doing lizard pose here and then working for now on just half lotus. My left leg cooperates, but not my right. Oh well, someday I’ll get into full lotus ✌🏻 just not today 🤷♀️
You know what’s really, powerfully sexy? A sense of humor. A taste for adventure. A healthy glow. Hips to grab on to. Openness. Confidence. Humility. Appetite. Intuition. … Smart-ass comebacks. #ElevateYourShape | Day 3 | Twisted #Lotus .
I took a floppety jillion pictures trying to recreate the host's shape today but I just wasn't feeling it. I played around and finally settled on this slightly twisted #halflotus shape. .
@michelle_yogogirls (special guest!)⭐️
@kylevonrebarf took this beautiful photo (seriously, those angles, and lines, and the shadow! ...and the thing I’m doing here is pretty cool too if I do say so myself 😉), and the first thing I noticed about it was that my top foot is oversupinating (i.e., a wee bit askew). WTF, brain? 😂 Like who even cares? Would anyone have noticed if I hadn’t just pointed it out? And if so, what difference would it have made? That initial reaction made me realize that I can get so stuck in wanting the photos that I share to be “perfect,” that I miss out on sharing some pretty cool stuff. I want to stop doing that. #fuckperfectionism#handstand#halflotus#yogaart#lovethisphoto
Day 17 of the #YogiAssignment is ignorance, or avidya. 😕❔ Saying "I don't know" usually doesn't bother me. I love and accept that I don't know everything and that I will never even come close to it. And that is the beauty to this world. THERE IS JUST SO MUCH OUT THERE TO DISCOVER. 🐙🍃🌍 If anything, I usually lean towards the mentality of "ehh, what do I know?" Of course, there are things I readily accept as the truth. So for today, I will practice checking in with myself and how I perceive the world based on my beliefs. ✔
What a deep assignment for a cold friday night 😆
