People often ask me "how do I get abs?", "what ab exercises do you do?", and to be honest I never actually do any abdominal specific or focused exercises (except for this photo ๐Ÿ˜œ). No sit ups, no crunches ๐Ÿ™… Just the odd plank here and there. My abs are the result of a combination of consistently good nutrition (key!!!) and a workout routine that involves a lot of movements with weight overhead, which causes me to have to constantly activate my core. I never do 'leg days' or 'back & bi's" days or target one area over another. My workouts are nearly always full body functional exercises and just that's what works for me. What gets you results in anything you're looking to achieve is consistency. Set a goal and then be consistent in doing what needs to be done to achieve it ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘Š

Day 4 : Easy run day๐Ÿšถ
Today was the most enjoyable run.  Almost 10km done in 57mins. ๐Ÿ˜ฌPace was lower than my 5k pace. The purpose of this run is to increase my VO2max and increase the number of slow twitch fibres. ๐Ÿ’ฏ
Did the run in buddha jayanti park.  Great for trail runs and getting away from delhi's pollution.

For throwback Thursday, I wanted to give a shout out to my amazing mother who is always impressing me with her ability to go above and beyond. So flashing back to 2 years ago; my mom loves hiking but she never wants to feel like she is holding anyone back or slowing down the family. Being able to keep up has been a top goal of her's. In 2015 she definitely got out and hiked and impressed us all, and her self I think, by completing a half marathon she let her daughter talk her into! Determination, training and a little push from her family, took her to a place where I don't think she ever thought she would go. We were all very proud of her! 
Now jumping ahead to 2017. My mom let another one of her daughters, me, convince her to do home workouts and follow a portion controlled meal plan. I'll admit she wasn't too excited about it at first but my mom is very supportive of her daughters so she decided to give it a go! I started with making all of her food and we worked out together. But now, well my mom has gone above and beyond again, she not only drinks her nutrition shake every morning after her workout, she is also meal prepping on her own and enjoying it all! It makes me smile just writing it and thinking about how far she's come on her journey! She is down just shy of 20lbs and more than 12 total inches in about 6 months. Although weight loss is amazing, what makes me even more proud of my mom is the way she pushes to do things she never could before. This August she participated in her first Spartan race. She went from a goal of keeping up while on hikes to running a 4 mile obstacle course! She admitted, not to me but to the rest of the family, if it wasn't for the workouts, the meal plan, and her nutrient dense shake, she would have been on the side lines with some of the other people suffering from fatigue and cramping. 
To wrap up, I just want to say, mom you're amazing, keep pushing for your goals, you inspire your family everyday and I'm so happy to be a part of your journey! Love you ๐Ÿ˜˜.

In order for your body to take the most out of the drills, focus on doing them when youโ€™re feeling fresh. Complete the movements at a fast frequency and aim to do them as correctly as possible. Stop the drill if you feel like youโ€™re too tired to keep a good form.

Once the drills are starting to go as planned, itโ€™s time to challenge yourself more and add new drills to the program. Continue challenging your body and creating new stimulus. You can also do the drills in a slight uphill, which means youโ€™ll really have to focus on the running form and on keeping a slight lean forward.

Many runners have difficulties in lifting their knees efficiently. High-knee walks and runs prepare you for the knee lift in running. These are basic movements, and youโ€™ll also have time to think about the cooperation of arms and legs during the drill.

Do the drill 10 to 20 meters a time, as efficiently as possible. Focus on planting the step underneath your center of mass and make sure that youโ€™re moving forward slowly, but with high frequency and short ground contact! Remember to keep your arms controlled and on the go.

Attended a foam rolling clinic tonight that was incredibly painful but also helpful. Haha. This came at a really good time because my lower legs have been feeling tight, and I know it's because I don't stretch enough. It's started to impede on my running, so I'm glad I came across this event. Everyone was super awesome and helpful. Hopefully my peroneus will stop acting up. 
Now I'm ready for that running clinic on Monday, and maybe I'll minimize the damage even more. ๐Ÿ’ฏ ยท

Four miles this afternoon that were fantastic! I've been so sore and exhausted lately from training and the chaos of life in general, that I lost that joy in my running and it's felt so forced and tiresome. But something clicked today. The miles flew by and I was singing along to the radio just enjoying the crap out of it like I used to! Loved every minute of it!

Just wish my hair didn't get so frizzy though because I had five minutes after my run to change out of sweaty clothes and get the kids to practice!

What a day! #crosstraining today, which mean my first #workout at @orangetheory #cedarrapids I am exhausted. I wanted to die. So naturally, I signed up for more ๐Ÿ˜† i saw that @corridorrunning is hosting a marathon/half next April, and that got me thinking about #halfmarathontraining. In August 4 years ago I ran my first real event. I started running for the first time that year and I foolishly under trained and still feeding my youngest lined up for the Brisbane Half marathon. I also joined a small group of women called RMA. My world has changed since that day. @nicbunyonrma changed the course of my life forever and I will be always grateful. She made me believe that anything was possible and she gave me friendships across Australia that run deep and lift me to be who I am. So here I am creeping up to 30 half marathons later and lining up for my 8th marathon in Berlin and my 3rd world major. The next 12 months will bring my 4th world major and 3 amazing ultras. RMA has now over 30,000 mums running the world. This week I've challenged myself to a 5K everyday for 5 days and today was my fastest time all week ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ if I'm being honest, it was probably because I was running by myself late at night and I wanted to get it over with as quick as possible without getting kidnapped (I don't recommend this strategy ๐Ÿ˜‚) but hey it worked ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฝ
