As decided earlier we moved towards the hampi island to spend our Day 1 at Hampi. Between Hampi and Hampi island is the mighty Thungabadra River. There is boat service across the banks, 20 rs per head you reach the other end safe (if you don’t jump into the water in between).
The other side, the hippie side is totally different from Hampi. It’s more colourful and crowded. There are shacks, wall arts street vendors and what not. Very happening and very lively.
First intention was to find a mode of transportation,(you get cycle, moped, bike or car on rent; a Honda navi is the most appropriate to rent) and a bed space.
It was New Year’s eve and Hampi island was pretty crowded. And bikes and rooms were on high demand, they costed heavy, say like how much bikes and rooms will cost at Goa during Off-season :P, that much.
See, Hampi is a very simple place with some beautiful down to earth people, so it’s all fair and happy going at Hampi.
The search for bike and room took us to Jay, who later became our trump-card. He rented us a Honda Navi, and also helped us find a stay.,not just a stay a brilliant stay. (If you are planning to hit Hampi, I have some contacts which could be helpful for you, ping me if you have plans) .
Jay suggested us to go the ‘The Hidden Place’, he told we will get tents there. We were not sure about the place by the name to be honest. Jay himself correctly directed us the route to reach this place. We followed his instructions correctly and ended up at some other tent place, they didn’t have room there and we then moved and found out the exact place which he was talking about. ‘The Hidden Place’, simply the best, as close as it could get to the nature, with few dozen of variable sized tents like mushrooms on the ground.
We took a small-sized tent for 2.
We kept our bag inside, freshened up and roamed around the area. .
Some good to know stuffs; there is neither atm’s nor network coverage in and around Hampi, which is in a way good. You spent wisely and stay in range with the place.
I have the funniest expression on my face. But then again, you aren't blessed by a big, beautiful elephant everyday, are you! :p .
Meet Lakshmi, permanent fixture at the 7th Century Virupaksha temple, one of the only standing and still operational temples amid the ruins of Hampi. Madame Lakshmi is quite the star, attracting tourists and pilgrims from all over the world, waiting to be blessed by her or just to feed her bananas and watermelons. .
You could just watch this magnificent beauty all day. We were introduced to her while she took her routine morning bath in the river, obediently listening to her mahout and changing sides, blowing bubbles in the river with her trunk as she lay in the water, being scrubbed vigorously. We then sat watching her eat lazily and defend her banana offerings from all the pesky monkeys who made daring attempts to steal them from right under her nose. And it'll make you gasp in surprise when she gracefully accepts the money you hold out, delivers it to her mahout and then proceeds to bless you, taking the utmost care to not apply too much pressure. For all her bigness and obvious strength, Lakshmi is probably one of the gentlest creatures you'll ever meet! :) .
Nandi Hills !! 😍 11 seconds timelapse ! 🌏🏞⛰ It's a nice break from boredom. Perfect weekend trip as this place is just around 60-65 km from Bangalore City,
One of the easier way to access Nandhi hills is via the road leading to the Bengaluru International Airport. After a few kilometers, past the road leading to the airport, one has to take a left-deviation towards the hills. An arch welcoming you to the Nandhi hills is the landmark to lookout for before taking the deviation.
The hill is home to the small fort, the Tippu drop (a cliff-viewpoint), a botanical garden and some ancient temples. In fact, the Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple is considered one of the oldest temples with the inscriptions dating back to 9th century! The hill is also considered home to the origin of some rivers and is worthwhile to explore.
Nandhi hills is known for its beautiful scenery from atop the mountain and is quite popular with honeymooners and holidaying couples. The sunrise and Sunsets are very beautiful and a must-see. The botanical garden and the government guest house with its beautiful flower garden are some of the other attractions.
