Handstands aren't evil.
⠀
Nor is pigeon.
⠀
Neither are the splits, or headstand, or firefly, or peacock.
⠀
So, I used to be a straight-A student in the school of asana, and then I injured myself and rebelled from all things end-range.
⠀
And then FRC happened. And my whole life and value system got turned upside down.
⠀
It's taken a while for the dust to settle, but what I'm coming to know through this evolutionary process is that movements in and of themselves aren't 'bad'.
⠀
If someone has a killer Eka Pada Koundinyasana (I obviously Googled how to spell that), and they take care of their bodies properly, LET THEM HAVE THEIR KILLER POSE.
⠀
And if you somehow know they don't take care of their bodies properly, don't be a judgmental asshole, because that person probably does not know any better (yet).
⠀
Listen:

There are things you know.
⠀
There are things you KNOW you don't know.
⠀
And there are things you DON'T KNOW that you don't know.
⠀
This is SO important to remember as teachers to help kick us off our high horses when it's necessary.
⠀
I still sometimes find myself getting all judgy when I see people expressing themselves in extreme postures, but that mentality is just as damaging as the all-things-alignment-and-dogmatic mentality.
⠀
In those moments, I have to catch myself and remember that I used to be a fancy-posture person who didn't care for her body properly, because I genuinely didn't know any different. But that doesn't mean I get to throw my judgments around at people whose stories I haven't heard yet.
⠀
Being a douchebag just because we've learned something new is an ego trap. If we want to share our knowledge with other people in a way that helps them feel EMPOWERED, we must come from a place of love and understanding. And we have to listen to their experience, just as much (if not more) than we get to speak our part.
⠀
So, a useful reminder to us all: Don't be a douchebag. 🙅
⠀
Choose instead to be a loving and empowering leader.💁💕

Today was my first day back to school and I was questioning why I choses to have 8:30am classes😴 but I was done by 10:30 with an almost full day left for snowy adventures with my dog, great food, a workout, and some yoga😊

I forgot I made this video a week before my injury. This is months of hard work, dedication, and plenty of frustration. I'm not where I want to be yet but I'm for darn sure way further then when I started 😁💪🙌 If you say I can't do that then you better start practicing. Can't shouldn't be in your vocabulary. Your way stronger then you know. It's time to challenge the warrior inside you 👊

the way to keep yourself from making assumptions is to ask questions. make sure the communication is clear. if you don’t understand, ask. have the courage to ask questions until you are as clear as you can be, and even then do not assume you know all there is to know about a given situation. once you hear the answer, you will not have to make assumptions because you will know the truth▫️ P/C : @danielrama_

I some times wander if I really need all these variations. I honestly do not think I do.

There are periods though that going through the same drill workout in - workout out is ok & periods that I feel like if I am going to do the same thing I did yesterday I will have to update my wardrobe with straight jackets • which might not be a bad 💡 as my knees will not bend so much while in them.

🥜With most pulling movements such as climbing or doing pull-ups or anything the like, the lats end up being activated. The lats are the biggest muscle in your back. They’re also decently tight in a lot of individuals. If you don’t have a lot of overhead flexibility, stretching out your lats can help with that. -
🥜Stretching your lats isn’t the most convenient thing to do and it’s decently taxing. The biggest thing to focus on is breathing since this can get pretty intense if your lats are super tight. -
🥜The feeling of the stretch is throughout the entire side of your upper body. You can make the stretch way more intense by shifting your foot back and really hit the entire side of your body. -
🥜The lats are an important muscle that need to be stretched so they can have optimal growth and gains. If you want those wings that people with ripped backs have, stretching your lats will help with that. Start off at 1 minute and work your way up to a longer stretch.

After an injury you always wonder how it's going to feel to start back up. I'm glad my injury didn't keep me out the whole month like I thought. I give thanks to my spiritual guides, binaural beats, healthy eating, and meditation for getting me back a lot faster then expected 💪😁

This is one of my FAVOURITE core and shoulder strengtheners. It’s not specifically about the handstand, it’s about the jump up there and the control you are trying to find throughout the whole body.

- Inhale into 3 legged dog
- As you bend your standing leg and jump EITHER exhale OR pause the breath and exhale as you reach the peak of your jump. This is how I breathe and it works for me. I’m not saying it’s the correct or only way so don’t shoot me okay?!
- Aim to find an L shape with the legs, with the trailing leg think thigh to chest to keep the hip flexor engaged and leg low.
- Use your top leg like a pendulum to find momentum to get UP! Reach through the toes and try to poke the ceiling.

This is actually super fun regardless of if you find hang time and is such a shoulder burner 🔥 Be sure to switch leg and try off of both.

If you find yourself in handstand, it’s likely to be a V shape. Tuck the tail bone and think of glueing your ribs towards your hip bones to turn your V into an L. You can see me doing this particularly on my second/weak side. .

Day 17/365. My last handstand was on Friday the 12th. On the 13th I decided to go to the tanner. Here in Michigan, a tanner can do wonders for feel good endorphins while we patiently await spring time. I was put into a bed with new bulbs and frrrriiiieeeddddd my poor skin. Not soooo feel good! Todays the first day I’ve been able to move without feeling like I’m ripping myself open every time I make movement. Now he's way better than I ever was and I can confidently say that his decision to face this challenge at IMAX was not reckless or premature. On the contrary, it was carefully calculated and built up to over nearly a decade of intelligent, quality training. Yea, nobody is perfect, even the best, but clearly he was well-prepared across multiple aspects (physical, mental, & technical) to handle the bail.

Satchel's a high-level athlete who is unique in many ways; one of the more curious being that he's allergic to social media and self-promotion. He will never admit to how fucking dope he is so I'm gonna say it for him. If you haven't heard of Satchel or seen his videos, know that he's been a humble and low-key titan, for many years, within the parkour talent hotbed that is Colorado. Helping to lead the energy, culture, and progression in a next-level place like Colorado is no easy feat and it speaks volumes about his skills, work ethic, and mindset. For those who have trained with this local legend, you know what I mean. If Satchel told me he was ready to dub side the Manpower Gap, I'd be like, 'Hell yea, want me to carry your stuff or hold a camera?' He would probably say nah and just do it 😆

One of the hardest things for me is to get going in cold windowless hotel gyms in the morning when it’s too cold to move around outside. One recent change is a short wake-up travel practice to improve cold access mobility, balance and strength limits. Very happy with gradual hip and spine changes and to have graduated to a cool cold handstand set that a few years ago would have been utterly impossible. The cumulative effects and magic of small improvements #idoportalmethod
