Making the conscious choice to step out on your own and become a leader means exactly that.... have enough pride in what you do to be your own person.
You can find your own voice and discover your own greatness rather than repeating others, especially those you wanted to break free from.
Don’t limit your potential (and that of those you’re “leading”) by working from fear. Fear of greatness, fear of authenticity, fear of the journey into the unknown, fear of failure, fear of being a voice...
The problem is if we continue on this track without moving away from the comfortable safety of being an echo, we do not develop our own unique voice, cutting off the creativity of the Spirit.
I have come to realize finding your voice takes time. It comes with confronting fear and being ok with being you. It comes by venturing into the unknown, making mistakes, and breaking free from the crippling worry of what others think about you. And in case you were wondering you were made to be a voice in your generation, not an echo.
Ask yourself today are you being you or are you still being someone else? The journey into the unknown is risky but without risk we can’t expect to live the life we were created for.
There was something odd about this old tent caterpillar tent. Whether it was looking for food or using the structure as a makeshift shelter, we were delighted to see this Carolina wren peering out at us. They are adaptable, often nesting in unique places and their primary food source are insects and spiders so either scenario is possible. This species is found in our area year round. Populations are affected by harsh winters but their numbers and range have been expanding north over the past century due to warming temperatures.

We were hiking along a marsh recently and saw what we assumed was a squirrel climbing in the dead vegetation. As we walked closer we realized with surprise that it was actually a muskrat climbing up to get to some of the remaining green leaves. While most rodents can climb, groundhogs for instance often surprise people with this ability, we still didn't expect it from this species. Muskrats, although much smaller than beavers, are similar in that they are aquatic rodents with dense fur that spend most of their time swimming, building their lodges and feeding along wetlands. They are often mistaken for mink or otters which are carnivores in the weasel family. All have similar coloration and swimming habits to some extent but muskrats are easy to pick out because they use their long, narrow tail that lacks fur to help propel them across the surface of the water. This sighting is another example of why we need to be open minded of where to find wildlife because they don't always follow the patterns we expect.
Since no photographer's IG is complete without a heron, here's my #tbt on a Tuesday to the time I had the island at Friends Park all to myself. I am not ready to admit that herons surpass penguins as my favorite animal, but I will say that I'm obsessed. August 2017.

In honor of MLK Day we gathered with some wonderful volunteers at the Wildlife Center for a day of service, continuing to build a place for the community and wildlife to enjoy. We are thankful for those like Martin Luther King, Jr. who not only stood up for what was right but did so out of love and service to others. We should always speak up for those in need. If we dedicate ourselves to service we will be part of that which makes the world a better place. "It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." -Martin Luther King, Jr.
