👑 @kambalem - As we commemorate the anniversary of the brutal assassination of 👑 #PatriceLumumba it is critical to lift up the names of Americans who organized to denounce the US government role in the killing of Lumumba during the February 15, 1961 Security Council meeting.
These were #DanielWatts activist and publisher of the Liberator (the publication of the Committee on the Liberation of Africa) #RosaGuy of the Harlem Writers Guild, writer/ poet #MayaAngelou poet #LeRoiJones ( #AmiriBaraka ), percussionist #MaxRoach and singer #AbbeyLincoln and many more. Elders who participated in creating connections with #Africa back then have insisted for us to tell the story to today’s generation so that we write our history. Ferguson and Kinshasa have quite a few things in common when it comes to police killing our people.
As we continue to build for human dignity, let us strengthen the ties with our sisters and brothers in the US and those on the continent to challenge any and all form of oppression forged against us!
Let’s also remember that 57 years later, the United States has yet to take responsibility in the assassination of the first democratically elected prime minister of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba.
