Birthday lunching and this poke-connoisseur just discovered the BEST poke in D-town, hands down [you know I’ve tried them all and yes, my previous fav has now been replaced].
In my BYO-bowl at @malibupoke: a cauli-rice/massaged kale base [no upcharge for the combo and the massaged component for digestibility is a #musthave if I’m ever ordering kale] + salmon + avo + micro cilantro + micro radish + [yes, my microgreen-obsessed 💚 was in heaven] + carrots + radish. All sauces are housemade with fresh local ingredients and most are completely soy-free 👌🏽 ... however the bowls were so delicious that neither of us ended up adding sauce!
Now on to prepping for a night-in of cooking with friends, including a variation on a recent recipe from @phoebelapine and my own gooey grain-free cacao-almond butter brownies.

Last night, went out with @josiahjlau to celebrate his graduation from nursing school. We had the chefs tasting menu at ‘Aina. It was one of the top 5 meals of my life. One sits at the counter with the chef presenting dishes in a mo’olelo (story). This story was all about Hawaii island (big island). For example, the dish shown bottom right is inspired by the rocky coastline of Hilo: Poke, completed by nuggets of forbidden rice and furikake to look like lava rock, with a sea foam of dashi broth. It was heavenly. The wine pairings were phenomenal. Expense limits me from doing this all the time, but I’ll be back. #hawaiianfood#dinner#aina#celebration#splurge#livealittle#congratulations
