Why do I love to cook with yogurt ? Yogurt is high in probiotics which is friendly/ good bacteria! We often use so many harsh product to cleanse our systems of toxins we forget that as well as the bad the good is also being washed away.... understanding your food will allow you to know how to put those good things such as; protein, magnesium, calcium, vitamins and good bacteria back into your body. #knowyourfood#healingwithfood#mealprep
slow mornings.. aka.. lazy af & pressing the snooze button for waaaaay too long 😴 calls for a quick but delicious breakfast.. brunch.. lunch.. F KNOWS I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS PEOPLE 😂 brain fog.
what's your go to quick breakfast? do you struggle for breakfast ideas for busy (or lazy 🙈) mornings? let me know!
I had some brussels prepped (I don't prep full meals.. a mix & match of veggies & dips are all I make to then quickly cook up with something else, like eggs) 👩🏼🍳 then I chucked them in a frying pan with asparagus, mushrooms & zucchini, sautéed in some water, all the seasonings & a splash of tamari 👌 VEGGIES DON'T NEED TO BE "BORING". get creative!
once they were done, I added the spinach until wilted 🍃 then finished by frying the eggs.
quick, simple, tatatataaaaasty 😍
Allegedly there is a storm raging but we are soaked in sunshine at the moment, thank goodness!! My love-story with rye bread, avo, tomato and spinach continues and it’s just the best with a sprinkling of dried chilli and lemon juice 🍋🥑 I had a checkup on all my vitamins levels and the doctor asked me to up my iron intake a bit - probably because (not so) little baby is taking everything he needs, and that is a LOT!! 🌿🦖 So vitamin c taken together with iron-rich foods (like spinach or kale) helps the absorption, which is why I am also having a glorious glass of orange juice 🍊🍊🍊 Going for other iron sources, like molasses, quinoa, broccoli and pumpkin seeds - to name a few at random! I don’t like to rely on supplements as you know but I am still going for my @gardenoflife #prenatal vitamins that provide everything, including vitamin D and B12, that we need to keep an eye on when on a plant-based diet 🍠🥕🌶🥥🍐
Buenoos díaas !!!
Mi desayuno que no necesita bi filtros 😍

Unsweetened matcha latte with almond mylk while I work on some exciting content for an upcoming gut health workshop (details soon!).
🌱Did you know matcha powder is incredibly high in antioxidants? Some studies suggest even over 100 times more so than just a regular cup of green tea. It also helps with mental clarity and focus, without giving you the "buzz" that you'd get from coffee (which can be too much for some people). It's also nutritionally dense, and contains things like Vitamin C, selenium, zinc and magnesium. How cool is that? 🍵❤️.
☕️I'm actually going off my beloved coffee as of Monday for a little while, so I'm doing some research (*ahem* by research, I mean taste testing things 🙈) on drinks I can enjoy instead of it. If you'd like more info on why I'm having a break (hint: it's to do with adrenals, mood, sleep, skin, liver and gut health), and what drinks I'll be enjoying instead and their health benefits, please comment or message me. I'd be happy to put together a little blog post about it!
Proof that not all of my food is Insta-fabulous 😂. But I don’t even care because this lentil Daal tastes so. freaking. GOOD.⠀
With warming spices and winter squash it’s just what my body needed on a chilly afternoon.⠀
Another recipe success using my new Dutch oven (seriously the best Christmas present ever). Would love to hear your Dutch oven recipe suggestions - seriously I’ll take any excuse to use mine! 😂⠀
So my most recent disappointment was finding out I have to eliminate nightshades. Most people have no idea what a nightshade vegetable even is. Well friends, it’s tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, all peppers, and anything that includes any of the above. You lose A TON of spices and condiments when you go nightshade free. No paprika, no red chili flakes, no Mexican seasoning, nothing that just says “and spices”, cayenne powder, chili powder...you see why I’m disappointed, right? Here is the interesting part. Ever since I stopped being able to have ketchup, bbq sauce or A1 sauce, beef and pork haven’t tasted the same. To the point where I’m thinking I’ll eliminate it for awhile. Makes me wonder if it’s just a change in my tastebuds or if I never really would have preferred it in the first place? Now, I still like steak. It still tastes good when seasoned and cooked right. 🤤 But back to nightshades. First off, nightshades cause me to have increased inflammation. They also started giving me a crazy rash that wouldn’t go away. For over 6 months, I tried yeast creams, steroid creams, jock itch cream and also powder...nothing worked. It was under my breast and also in the crease of my leg/pelvic area. It burned and itched. It was awful. I stopp eating nightshades and it was gone within a week and a half. 😳🙌🏼 I went back a few weeks later and had ketchup...it came right back with itching starting about 30 minutes after eating. It’s crazy to think my favorite veggies were causing all this. And it could just be that my gut is such a mess that for now I need to avoid these things. But trust me, it’s worth it. Anything to lower inflammation and get rid of those rashes! #_cherylsjourney_#healingmybody#healingwithfood#autoimmunedisease#fibromyalgia#fibromyalgiawarrior#hashimotos#pcos#raynauds#thycawarrior#thyroidcancer#osteoarthritis#cherylswljourney#cherylsaipjourney#aip#bodypositivity#glutenfree#dairyfree#eggfree#nightshadefree#nonightshades#tomatofree#potatofree#chronicillness#chronicpain
Healing with food. Healing the root Chakra- raspberries are good for healing the root Chakra they consist of the same colour/red. Each chakra has its own vibrational frequency, color, and governs specific functions that help make you, well, human. If you suffering from insomnia, lower back pain, sciatica, constipation, depression - it may be that your root Chakra has a blockage eating raspberries will help balance this out! #eatclean#rasperries#facts#cyrstals#cyrstalhealing#rootchakra#red#healingwithfood#healing
I'm still buzzing from my first ever consultation in clinic practice at @collegeofnaturopathicmedicine 🎓 I PASSED! This is a HUGE deal for me and I'm so proud of myself and so grateful to everyone who has supported me and always believed in me xx Especially when I've been often judged and looked down on from others because I'm an ex-stripper and of what I teach as a pole instructor. Self-expressing through dancing will ALWAYS be a passion of mine and my 12 years of stripping will ALWAYS be part of my life - THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME LESS OF A NUTRITIONIST!
So to celebrate my success I cooked 100% plant-based-badass-healthy dinner for my amazing boyfriend and amazing housemates!
Here we've got sweet potato stuffed with mushrooms, spinach, avocado, tomatoes, asparagus, spring onions topped with turmeric coconut sauce and homemade spicy tomato sauce 😋
P.S. The feeling when you keep pushing yourself to get out of your comfort zone is priceless!
P.S.S. If anyone is interested in nutritional consultations give me a shout as we always need clients in clinics.
Dinner last night was bone in pork chops seasoned with mace and cinnamon, browned in avocado oil and then baked with sliced fennel bulb, apple and onion. Served with butternut squash, roasted okra, and bok choy with some scrumptious lemon, garlic and cilantro cauliflower florets. I had never successfully prepared okra, but did some reading on how to reduce the sliminess and ended up soaking it in a bit of kombucha before tossing in avocado oil and throwing it in the oven to roast. You could also use vinegar or fresh squeezed lemon/lime juice.
I’m really going all out right now by sharing my weight. My biggest fear has always been someone knowing how much I weigh. Honestly I’m not sure why. Like what’s the worst that could happen?? You think I’m fat?! 😂 Yeah, me too. 😉 Because I am, and well that number changes nothing. I’m still ME. ☺️ So those of you who really know me know that prior to all of this crap I deal with, I was in the gym like crazy. I meal prepped. I took supplements. But nothing changed. Fast forward to Jan 2015. I started following a zero carb, meat/egg/cheese diet and I started losing. I went from 280 to 255. I was 255 the day they removed the first half of my thyroid. Fast forward to Jan 19th, 2017...I weighed in at 291. I was miserable. And angry at my body. I managed to lose 10lbs between then and September but it was SO difficult. I’ve lost 12 more pounds since September after eliminating nightshades, dairy and eggs. That was without effort, just from removing them (another post for why). See, without my thyroid, nothing has been the same. Add in fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s and PCOS...yeah, talk about a struggle. It feels like every odd is against me. But I never give up. I keep readjusting my plan. I continue to research. I continue to be my biggest advocate at every dr appt. I read...A LOT. I can’t exercise yet because, oh I forgot to mention...I have coronary heart disease. I had a stent put in my main artery in September and because recently I’ve had pain, I’m not allowed to exercise until they run tests. Anyway, this is just the medical stuff. I’m determined to fix as much as I can. 😉 #_cherylsjourney_#healingmybody#healingwithfood#autoimmunedisease#fibromyalgia#coronaryheartdisease#hashimotos#pcos#raynauds#thycawarrior#osteoarthritis#cherylswljourney#cherylsaipjourney#bodypositivity#imnotmyweight#glutenfree#dairyfree#eggfree#nightshadefree#chronicillness#chronicpain
Warning!! Packaged food lunch post:
First time trying @kettleandfire bone broth. While it heated up I mixed some homemade mayo with herbs to dip my @volpifoods salame and cheese, grabbed a few olives and a fork full of sauerkraut, and mixed a few @lilys_sweets_chocolate choc chips with @nutiva coconut manna. Stirred some @organicvalley ghee and salt in broth and added @lakantosweetener to my iced tea. Pretty delicious fast food! #keto#ketogenic#eatrealfood#healingwithfood#guthealth#brainhealth#favoritebrands#hclf#ketosis
Cardiovascular disease is our number-one global killer. Every day, about 2,200 Americans die from cardiovascular disease (one person every 40 seconds!), and by the year 2030, over 23.6 million people are expected to die annually. Those are some scary numbers—especially considering heart disease is rooted in many diet and lifestyle factors we have control over.
The good news is that switching to a Paleo diet can dramatically reduce our risk of cardiovascular disease. And, this is more than just speculation from Paleo advocates - the scientific literature backs it up. Today's #TipTuesday comes to you from me trying to quit drinking soda #TheStruggleIsReal 😩😂
I have been drinking TONS of water and if I'm being totally honest, I am not totally on board with this water all day thing yet, LOL!⠀
However, I started infusing it like they do at the spa and it does help. My fave combination so far is lemon water and cucumber mint. What are your favorites? PLEASE SHARE and help a girl out!
~ (swipe 👉🏽) I have been dealing with eczema since I was three years old. Using all different types of steroid creams only making my condition worse. I was placed in sun therapy and I was given liquids to bathe in and nothing seemed to help. Doctor after doctor told me that this was a condition I had to live with for the rest of my life, and no one even considered changing my diet. My mother took me to a holistic doctor and he told my mother that I should stay away from meat and dairy products, and my mother did not eat meat and dairy herself so she started giving me more of her food. But being young I wanted to eat like the other kids and didn’t understand the link between diet and health. So I continued to eat what I wanted and to keep my Eczema in check I would use steroids and moisturizers. I really thought that this was my life. About 3 years ago I started digging deeper into this, becoming more aware of myself and the lifestyle I had. I stoped using the creams and started cutting things out of my diet, started to practice yoga and meditation and things were getting better. Last year I had a breakout from hell, went to the hospital and they tried to give me steroids once again. I felt helpless, but I managed to calm my mind and breathe through it. I told myself that this was the last time I ended up there. A couple months later I came across @medicalmedium and I was sold! I am still learning to deal with my destructive habits and ever since I became vegan during my pregnancy, I feel so light and greater then ever. Staring my day with coconut water or celery juice has been a life saver! I am so grateful for all that is, right now at this moment, I am healing. ~
