What a wild ride 2017 was with my health. Due to a job change we lost health insurance and had to venture out on our own with REALLY icky plans that gave our family only the bare minimum of care.
We decided to shift our funds around in the budget and spend even LESS on health insurance (emergencies only) and MORE on things that keep our body above the wellness line, instead of only responding when we drop below.

It’s always a taboo subject among my clients that I suggest taking measurements and weigh ins every 4 to 6 weeks, and it’s because all they see is numbers on a sheet that either decrease (or increase?!) and they shame themselves for it, but actually what I, as a Personal Trainer, need people to understand is that without the investment into your own health you are doing your body damage. You can’t see the damage on the inside, but lots of irregular, unhealthy meals paired with little exercise is causing havoc on your organs, muscles, arteries, heart etc.

I have been a bit on and off unwell the past 2 weeks but nothing has been able to really take hold and I honestly believe it’s been because of these babies. In the past, at the first sign of cold or flu that would be it, I’d be out for 2-4 days but not now! .
I am so so grateful for the solid foundation I have been able to build in terms of my health this year so that I can keep doing all the things that I want to do 💫
Undertaking the whole #barefootinvestor process to get myself set up for the month has really made me evaluate what I prioritize. One thing I really want to focus more on is my health... I have always said that if I can’t work out at home (Go for a run, YouTube videos etc.) then I don’t need a gym membership as I would just be wasting the money. But I have started to think that I need that external motivator as I am struggling to motivate myself. I am starting to look at gyms etc. to see what I can work in with my lifestyle and budget💕
I talk about the Gym as if I dread going some days- but no matter how horrible I feel I make myself go. It’s honestly my favorite thing. It’s brought health, joy, and purpose into my life! If I had the money I would definitely get my certificate to coach to show people there’s only so many excuses you can give yourself and so many reasons as to why you can’t get to the gym. I walk around and see everyone making so many excuses as to WHY they CAN’T make it to the gym- and most say time or money? As much of a huge @crossfit advocate I am- there’s gyms out there that cost less. If you look at your health continually as a cost instead of an investment your lifestyle will NEVER change. While so many people are pissed off at @bodybuildingcom for starting to charge for their content/plans (I admit I was a little apprehensive at first too), I’m staying. I totally get it from a business perspective. They have to stay competitive. I own a business myself and can’t just give everyone everything for free. Content and programs don’t just grow on trees. People spend time making them. People will pay for @amazon Prime for their benefits, but not invest $8.99 a month for their health? I pay for prime because I love fast shipping; I pay $10 a month for @avatarnutrition because I’ve seen amazing results and I sure as heck will pay $8.99 for @bodybuildingcom programs because I’ve had success from their programs and content in the past (even though I’m sure I could find something similar on the internet for free). Not just an investment of money but of time, knowledge, effort, commitment, discipline...but It’s a journey that will result in bigger and better rewards than anything you’ve ever experienced.
When you are looking to heal or improve health it has to come from the inside out, there are no band-aids, or short cuts. You have to recognize, know, seek answers and find the right solution for your body. Be your own advocate, no one is going to do it for you. And listen to your body- when you are in tune with yourself, it will show you the good and the not so good.
And remember without our health, it’s difficult to enjoy the rest of our blessings.

Being healthy means something different for each & every one of us. To me, having my health means I’m not chained to the toilet, I don’t suffer constant, chronic stomach aches, my body moves freely & I feel GOOD. 😁 Health, like beauty, lies in the eye of its beholder; there is no one single definition that could capture its intricacy.
