I avoided 260 calories, 18 grams of fat, 24 net carbs, & 12 grams of sugar by creating my own fast food hack. If you’ve been following us, you know that one of my biggest problems was fast food addiction. The more I ate it, the more I craved it. I seriously think I went through withdrawals when we started our weight loss journey. This morning, I used 2 Kashi waffles, turkey sausage, one egg, & skipped the cheese (cheese with blueberries?🤢) VS. McDonalds sausage, egg, & cheese McGriddle. 🚫

Eating out doesn’t automatically mean stuffing yourself to the brim or eating the most unhealthy things on the menu 🙅🏼‍♀️

For example, often restaurant dishes are already seasoned enough without needing extra salt or sauces to go with them so resist the need to add more (or at least minimise what you do add) if you can. Another example is starters - last night at @shoryu_ramen I was really hungry when I arrived but resisted the urge to order the slightly stodgier starters and ordered the edamame beans instead for a nutritious way to curb my hunger before the main event (ramen) arrived! It also meant I savoured my main meal more too.

My view is that eating out should always be enjoyed, but it doesn’t mean you need to go crazy on the food choices every time!

I’ve been obsessed with this hamburger soup 😍

A couple weeks ago in Seattle, my boyfriend and I, both ardent soup lovers, were pondering how we could turn the pound of ground beef into an AIP-friendly soup 🤔

With the guidance of a recipe from Hold the Grain, we made some tweaks to fit AIP standards and BOOM, AIP Hamburger Soup!

The result? AMAZING. We’ve each made at least two batches since! 😂

I’m pretty pumped to be returning to LA with a perfect dinner portion of this deliciousness 👌🏻

SLEEP!! 😴😴😴

In order to slay these goals and resolutions you set for yourself you need to have adequate sleep! I’m not going to go into the exact hours you need or what times of the night is your best sleep, is it better to be a night owl, or morning person, etc. I have done a lot of research and listening of podcasts that talk about the fact that everyone has a natural sleep type and because of that we don’t all need say 8 hours, and some people may be more productive at night and some in the morning. Right now in the program I am doing it is recommended that you get 8 hours a night. But that is hard for this mama! I’m a night owl who is working on being more of a morning person. But I have learned that just saying, “I’m not a morning person,” is a limiting belief and I am ditching all of those to the curb in 2018, so since August I have been more intentional about being a morning person ...and it worked! .
But here are some things that are working for me to get more sleep. They actually come out of my Miracle Morning routine that states a good morning routine starts at night. This has also  helped bust my anxiety :
😴Before bed sit down and journal on the day. I include 3 things that happened in the day that were amazing and one thing I can do to make tomorrow better. 😴Then I brain dump on an empty sheet of paper by writing down everything that pops in my head. Getting it on paper is a way to “get it out” of my mind and release it and I can revisit it in the morning if I need to. 😴Say my bedtime affirmations that create a positive expectation for the next morning ...”I am getting more than enough sleep to wake rested and full of energy” for example. 
M😴Move your alarm clock or phone away from your bed 😴Do not hit snooze in the am! It is a scientifically proven to make you feel drowsy for 4 hours afterwards. .
These things have helped me actually feel much more rested on less hours of sleep. But right now I am working on getting as close to 8 hours of sleep I can, so I am off to bed. Peace out world!ğŸ˜´âœŒğŸ»ğŸŒŽ

It was actually reported that around 80% of people fail on their resolutions by February. Keeping fit is not about drastic change. Start with 10 minutes of additional activity a day. I feel like oatmeal has gotten a bad rap lately. And that sucks because oatmeal is so good on cold days like today. It warms your belly and your heart (just saying). Not to mention, it can be good for you.

Unfortunately, most of us choose the instant oatmeal packages, which are full of sugars that up our insulin and leave us hangry just an hour or two later. To create that “good for you” oatmeal, you gotta make it from scratch. That means steel cut or rolled oats. That means adding in a healthy mix of protein and fat (may I suggest chia seeds and coconut flakes?). And that means sweetening with fruit instead of sugar.

It’s a little bit more work, but it’ll go a long away. And hear me when I say it’s worth it. After all, health is a long game. So, if you can, do a little work upfront now you’ll avoid a lot of work down the line. Double tap if you’re all about a warm breakfast on a cold day 🥣❄️

We aren’t always going to feel like making the good and healthy choice, but we are adults. We don’t have anyone telling us what to do, so we need to give ourself the extra push and just do it! 
Tonight I didn’t want to go live. I am tired, crabby and have a headache. No one was telling me I had to do it. I am an adult and I make my own decisions. So, I gave myself the extra push and did it anyway. Cause if we wait until we “feel” like it...nothing will ever get done. You’ve heard me say it before, motivation is garbage and a load of 💩. That is why you have to parent yourself. 
Wake up >snooze
Healthy meal>junk food
Working out >skipping it
Sleep>Netflix 
Water >soda
Work>nap

So, i gotta know...what area of your life are you parenting yourself in today???🤔

Turkey & sweet potato TACO skillet 👅
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- 1 lb ground turkey ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- 1 green pepper, 1 orange
- 1 cup mushrooms
- 1/2 an onion
- 2 cups diced sweet potato⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- 1 packet taco seasoning (I used 1.5 but I like it super taco-ey)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Brown the turkey on med-high
2. Add taco seasoning once brown
3. Add all veggies except sweet potato. Cook until they are soft
4. Turn down to medium
5. Mix in sweet potato, add 1/2 cup of water and cover 
6. Let stand (covered) for 6-8 minutes until potatos are soft ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This morning’s bacon & veggie hash from my Airbnb in Kanab, UT! RECIPE BELOW ⬇️

Servings: 2
Cook time: 25ish mins
Recipe Values: Paleo, AIP, Low sugar, Low carb (remove sweet potatoes)

INGREDIENTS:
🔹 4 slices @applegate Sunday uncured bacon (or another antibiotic-, hormone-, and nitrate-free bacon), cut into 1” pieces
🔹2 garlic cloves, minced
🔹 1/2 yellow onions, chopped into 1”ish pieces
🔹 1/2 medium sweet potato, chopped into 1/2” cubes
🔹 10 Brussels sprouts, chopped into quarters
🔹 1 cup broccoli florets
🔹 1/2 cup previously roasted chicken, chopped into 1/2” cubes
🔹 salt to taste
🔹 1 tsp garlic powder
🔹 1/2 tbsp dried rosemary

DIRECTIONS:
1. In a large frying pan on med-high heat, cook bacon until crispy 🥓 
2. With a slotted spatula, remove bacon (leaving as much bacon fat in pan as possible) and set on a small plate. Reduce heat to low-medium.
3. Add garlic and onion to pan with bacon fat. Cook 2 mins.
4. Add sweet potato to pan and toss to combine. Cook 5 mins.
5. Add Brussels sprouts and broccoli florets and toss. Cook 5 mins.
6. Add salt, garlic powder, and rosemary. Toss to combine. Cook 5 minutes.
7. Add bacon and chicken to frying pan. Toss to combine. Cook another 5ish minutes or until sweet potato is tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.
8. If feeding 2, serve both portions. If feeding 1, serve one portion and put the 2nd in a container for later! ⚡️

Last week, I was really getting in my head about the 60 minute workouts. I was wondering how the heck I was going to make it through 80 days of it. It honestly seemed impossible after I’ve gotten so used to my 30 minutes every morning.
Okay yes I’m only 2 days into the program but I’ve taken it day by day, move by move, enjoyed the tunes I’ve been listening to and all of a sudden it’s the end of the workout and I SURVIVED.
This is EXACTLY how I like to approach life, too. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with everything there is to do but when you chunk it down and take it DAY BY DAY it’s so much easier. ***Lunch prep: Turkey and mozzarella meatballs with a red pepper and courgette ragu*** 🍅🍝🍽
I’ve spoken before about how lunch prep can help people to maintain a healthier diet during the working week. Rather than having to grab something on the go (which often means prioritising convenience over healthiness), having your lunch pre-made means you don’t need to worry! Also, it doesn’t actually take that long to prep your meals in advance - simply make an extra portion of one of your dinners or choose something that’s easy (but still tasty) to make on mass. An idea to get you started is this dish!
Ingredients (for 2 portions):
3tsp rapeseed oil
250g turkey mince
1tsp smoked paprika
Pinch of salt and pepper
Half ball of mozzarella
1 large red onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 x red pepper, sliced
Half a courgette, sliced into thin half-moon shapes
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp tomato purée
400g chopped tomatoes
2 cups of pasta (can be swapped for rice/spaghetti!)
•
To create:
- Heat 1tsp of the oil in a large pan and heat your oven to 160C. Mix the turkey, paprika, salt and pepper in a bowl. Knees the mixture into small meatball shapes. With one finger, push a hole into the meatball and fill it with a small piece of mozzarella. Close the meat around the mozzarella so that you can no longer see it and roll back into a ball shape. Place the meatball into the pan. Do this for the rest of the mixture.
- Brown the meatballs on all sides. Once browned, place in the oven and cook for approx. 10-12 mins, or until the meatball is cooked all the way through (open one up to check!)
- Meanwhile, heat 2tsp of oil in a deep pan. Add the onions and cook for 3 mins until starting to soften. Add the garlic and stir in. Add the red pepper, courgette and oregano and stir in well. Cook for 3 mins. Add the tomato purée and stir in. Add the chopped tomatoes and salt and pepper. Leave on a medium heat for as long as you can (until the meatballs are ready!). Once the meatballs are cooked through, add them to the ragu and stir in. Meanwhile, cook the pasta. Serve this and place the meatballs and ragu on top.

You will be going along good, but when the going gets tough, you will most likely go back to old, unhealthy habits, as nothing inside changed. .
How can you start changing your mindset? By using the law of attraction. The Law of Attraction says that you will attract into your life whatever you focus on. Whatever you give your energy and attention to will come back to you. So affirmations are the perfect place to start! 
How???
1. Start with the words "I am." These are the two most powerful words in the English language.
2. Use the present tense.
3. State it in the positive. Affirm what you want, not what you don’t want.
4. Keep it brief and specific.
5. Make affirmations for yourself, not others.

I write mine on index cards and read through them each morning. Then I pick a few to specifically focus on for my day’s intention and my journaling. .

Today’s very late “breakfast” is plain and simple: grass-fed ground beef, organic broccoli sautéed in coconut oil, and previously roasted sweet potato sliced and sautéed in yet more coconut oil.

The only seasonings used were salt on the beef and broccoli and cinnamon on the sweet ‘taters! Because when you’re using high quality real food (not those chemical-laden, sugar-filed, hyperpalatable fake foods) it doesn’t take much at all to make your meal taste great!

After too many days in a row of this “forgetting to eat” nonsense, I’m getting organized and doing a little extra food prep at lunch. (I had scrambled eggs for dinner at 9:30 last night y’all. That’s when you KNOW it’s getting bad.)

In less than 30 minutes, I seared 2 flat iron steaks, cooked broccoli and steamed a big pot of brown rice.
.
Then I filled up each of my @6packbags containers with 1/2 c brown rice, a generous handful of broccoli, and 4 oz of steak. Added a couple cubes of pineapple, scallions and Sriracha for flavor and fun. 💥Because FLFs do not believe in eating dry, bland, miserably-nasty food.

Now I have a stack of balanced, ready-made FLF meals in my fridge - and ZERO excuses.

| M A T C H A | 🍵I had a few friends the other day asking me what matcha I used so I thought I would share with you here, too! 🍵First if all, matcha is created from high-quality shade grown leafs called tencha. It’s leaves are sheltered from the sun to avoid fast acting photosynthesis which produces a darker pigmented leaf. This in turn stimulates a higher concentration of chlorophyll and amino acids. 🍵Once the leaf is matured, it is harvested by hand, and milled using granite stone mills which results in a soft, powered substance. 🍵It’s been used in Japanese cultures for over 900 years and in China in the 9th century, matcha was used as a “drug” for treating various ailments. #plantpower 🍵 It is a source of vitamin A, C,E, vitamin B- complex and SUPER antioxidant heavy including polyphenols, catechins, and chlorophyll. For my non-science nerds, just trust me, this stuff is good for you!! 🍵Benefits of Matcha include: strengthening of immune system, antioxidant agent, maintains healthy metabolism, improves cardiovascular health , and provides relaxation and mental alertness. It even provides about half the caffeine as a black tea bag for an afternoon boost! 🤚But wait! Before you run out and go buy “whatever” matcha... QUALITY MATTERS. Just like our fruits, veggies, meat, oils, household products, quality is of the upmost important to ensure you are actually receiving these benefits. I recommend going to a high quality tea store and purchasing from them, since they know where to get the goods that are not filtrated with all the extra sugars and fillers that shouldn’t be In there.

One of the best (maybe actually even the best) things about Sundays is obviously a roast dinner 🍴 I absolutely love cooking a whole roast chicken, not just for the roast itself but also to have the leftovers on a Monday! Makes Mondays a little bit easier and more tasty 🤣 If you often find you have roast chicken leftovers and need some inspiration on how to best use them up then have a go at this recipe - chicken egg fried noodles with red peppers and mange tout.
Ingredients (for 2 people):
1 heaped tsp of coconut oil (I used @lucybeecoconut)
2 x handfuls of mange tout
6 large mushrooms, chopped
1 x garlic clove, finely chopped
1 x small chilli, finely chopped
Half tsp of fish sauce (I used @bluedragonuk)
Pinch of black pepper
1 x red pepper, cut into strips
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp soy sauce
Roast chicken leftovers
2 portions of wholewheat noodles (I used @bluedragonuk)
1 x egg
Handful of coriander leaves
•
To create:
- Heat the oil and add the mange tout, mushrooms and garlic. Fry for 3 mins.
- Add the chilli, fish sauce, black pepper and red pepper. Fry for 2 mins. Add the honey and soy sauce and stir in.
- Add the chicken and fry for 5 mins. Meanwhile, boil the noodles for 5 mins. Remove from the heat and drain. Add to the pan and stir in well.
- Crack the egg into the pan and stir in well. Serve and top with the coriander leaves.

Welcome back all to the FINAL day of this week’s series “1 healthy tip a day.” 😥 I’ve really enjoyed sharing my healthy tips with you this week and if you have any that I’ve forgotten or that you think others should know, please leave them down below 👇🏼👇🏼
You all know that I couldn’t get through this haul without talking about food 🙈 So, my final tip for you all is to buy your own food.
Buying your own food and cooking at home will save you tons of 💰💰 and is much better for your fitness goals 👍🏼 Mastering a few recipes will help you feel more comfortable in the kitchen and will help you be in control of your fitness.

This haul was just what I bought for the week and with this I made a delicious chili, and the Mexican style cauliflower rice. These both lasted a few days and were wonderful for grab and go- ideal for those of you who work in an office 😉
I also bought some staples such as:
1. Eggs
2. Bananas
3. Frozen berries
4. Spinach
5. Veggies
6. Chocolate
I hope that this series inspired you all to get out there and start living a bit healthier 😊

הגעתי לכאן הבוקר והיישר אצתי לשוק הפרחים ושוק האיכרים של יום ראשון. השעה עכשיו אחת וחצי בצהריים וגמעתי כבר 13 ק"מ ו15000 צעדים. כאמור, סקרנות היא דלק מניע בחיי :)
בינתיים, גיליתי כאן מגוון של מאכלים שונים ומשונים, אני כבר לא זוכרת מה מספר הפעמים שאמרתי היום "ברוך משנה הבריות". ניכר שבהונג קונג חובבים גדולים של בשר וחלבון מהחי מחד, מאידך אוהבים פה מאוד לדחוף שעועית אדומה וטופו לכל דבר ממלוח ועד מתוק. התזונה כאן בהחלט שונה מהמוכר לנו ומסקרנת מאוד. 
שוק האיכרים כאן עצום בגודלו וגיליתי כל מיני פירקות חדשים. אשתדל להעלות תמונות ורשמים נוספים בקרוב. חברים, אם למישהו מכם יש המלצות על מסעדות מומלצות שידידותיות לצמחוניים אשמח שתכתבו לי🙏
