#rehabwithpaul  Today is a a pants on backwards kind of day and by that I mean, they were on backwards ALL day and I was out in public a more than a couple times. 🙈
Besides that, I apologize For not updating or responding much, it has been so chaotic and a bit frightening and busy with appointments, paper work, meds and helping Paul. Rehab at home is just nuts, but Paul can now walk around sometimes with a cane, sometimes with me and sometimes by himself. Although  he has a mysterious foot pain...🧐👎🏼 This is our new normal and it is getting a bit easier today, as you see I even got to do a REAL yoga practice while Paul watched Star Wars w his brother in law.👽
So this post is dedicated to finding or reclaiming inner peace and inner joy which I send to all of you who have been so kind to me these past 4-5 weeks.

#Spinach is probs one of my favorite #veggies. It needs #notime, and so little effort to #shine. #Sautéed with a drop of #oliveoil and grated #garlic it wilts and glows in seconds. The #cooking is important here, so it the oil.  We need the cooking to break down those #plantcells to release their #powerhouse of #calcium, #iron and #zinc. We need the oil to transport the fantastic #antioxidant #carotenoids that protect us from #heartdisease and #cancers. Don't get frustrated when you read this and throw your hands up in the air and say it is all too hard.

This is where it gets important if you are Type 1 or Type 2, can't lose weight, can't get that fatty liver to behave or wonder why your triglycerides are still elevated and you are worried about your heart after a stent/procedure.

This is classic 'hidden carbohydrates' where you test your sugars before and after and wonder why they have gone to the moon (and they will come crashing back). The packet of taco mix is almost pure maize (finely ground corn) and sugar and the taco shells are pure maize.

The taco packet has 10 teaspoons sugar equivalent.

The taco box with 12 taco's is 11 teaspoons of sugar equivalent.

They may push your blood sugars up more that what table sugar would.

Your blood sugars and insulin are going to spike and you can forget about good control or weight loss-it just won't happen.

The solution?

Make up your own 'Mexican mix' with paprika, oregano, cumin, black pepper etc and add a pinch of stevia.

For the shells? I have my patients make up a low-carb flatbread or there are some low-carb 'corn chip' recipes that I hand out.

Also be careful with tomato paste, pasta and canned tomato-they can really spike blood sugars.

Yes it is frustrating-but these are the 'little but big things' that sabotage your efforts.

This potent mix of carbohydrates and fat (mince) is why heart disease, diabetes and obesity is climbing so fast.

Have the fat and protein, but they MUST be mutually exclusive in regards to carbohydrates.

Had my post-up appointment this morning with both my surgeon and stoma nurse, which went really well! Because my nurse wanted to check on my stoma (which she put silver nitrate on because of granulomas I have developed), we had to change my bag. Even though I had it changed just yesterday, it feels nice to have a fresh one on, especially since — despite using lubricating deodorant — my output tends to “pancake” (ostomate term referring to output buildup at the top of the bag instead of the bottom). My nurse told me that this shouldn’t really happen with an ileostomy, and that it’s from not drinking enough... Ugh, I really need to get better at that! 🤦🏽‍♀️

Also, I learned that the order in which I apply all of my ostomy products during a bag change has been totally wrong. 😳 The reason why my wafer never stuck when using stoma powder (to help with my irritated skin) is that I applied it AFTER using barrier wipes, when I’m supposed to put it on BEFORE! Oops! 😅 Well, it’s all still a learning curve and it (as of tomorrow) has only been three weeks since my surgery, so it’s inevitable to make mistakes along the way.

My surgeon also assured me that the “normal” bowel movements I am still having (out of my other end...) should eventually go away, and that it’s absolutely not from my stoma output traveling into my attached mucous fistula. I really hope that this will subside, because I was afraid of this happening with my colon still intact... 😕

Overall, it’s been a great (albeit exhausting) day so far! 👍🏼

1. Not only am I a health coach, but I'm also a professional dancer and educator by way of public schools and private institutions. There is nothing more rewarding for me than seeing my students excel and overcome big feats!

2. I haven't always been confident in myself and real talk, some days I still struggle with who I am, but exercising , music, and movement has always been a way for me to center and show myself a lot of love. 
3. My father's death last year was a big reason why I started taking my business in Color Me Fly more seriously. He died of chronic Kidney failure and Heart Disease. I have a passion for helping people overcome their illnesses holistically and extracting it out the body.

I am so thankful to be a Mom! I tend to use this time of year when my boys participate in their Super Bowl games as a reminder of how my health drastically declined after their 2015 football season.  Around this time two years ago I developed pericarditis, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's, and pre-diabetes all at once.  I was placed on bed rest a few months later, unable to care for my family, and not sure about how to heal. 
This picture was taken last Sunday after a long day of Super Bowl games, of which two of my sons walked away with victories!  I made it through the day of emotional ups and downs with just a little fatigue.  It's important to mention that I've recently learned about "triggers" from reading the new book by @medicalmedium called Thyroid Healing.  Football is definitely a trigger for me since I am healing from a thyroid virus.  Most people can attend the games and turn off their emotional and physical responses once the game is over.  For someone like me who is dealing with a thyroid virus and adrenal issues, it's just not that simple. 
This picture symbolizes my strength as a mother to combat the physical and emotional symptoms of having a thyroid virus and not allowing anything to deter me from supporting my boys with the sport they love.  There are many who will read this post and wonder what I mean when I say thyroid virus.  If you are suffering from a thyroid issue or know someone who is, I encourage you to pick up the Thyroid Healing book sooner than later.  There's a reason why doctors can't pinpoint the true causes of thyroid disease.  They have it all wrong, and @medicalmedium has it all right.  This picture is proof of that!

I am trying my best to have a thankful heart and remember ALL that I have, but this holiday is hard for me. This was the last holiday I spent with my dad before he passed away. The memory is vivid today as I suspect it will always be. 3 years ago me and some other family members all went up to the hospital to have a Thanksgiving meal with him. His health had been so up and down for so long I never thought it would be my last time seeing him. .

I wish he would have made better choices for his health. Really those small choices each day would have made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. I wish badly I could still hug him, hear his laugh, have him meet Addie, and continue to see Gavin grow up.

If current dietary habits and trends continue, the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the food system in 2050 will be 51% higher than current levels. This is due to factors including global population growth. 
Researchers calculated that if everyone ate a #vegetarian #diet, consuming #eggs and #dairy but no meat, emissions would fall by 44% and emissions would decrease by 55% if everyone became #vegan. 
The task of reducing global greenhouse gas emissions enough to limit warming to 2 degrees Celsius in global average #temperature considered by many scientists a tipping point for climate #disaster, is a truly massive one.
