I took last year's biggest rain cloud and gave it a silver lining. My dad's heart attack, quadruple bypass, and subsequent long road to recovery was one of the scariest and most difficult times in my life.
After learning that my family has a long history of heart problems after the age of 60, I was afraid of going through the same trauma that my dad did. I made a decision to start taking my heart health seriously NOW instead of leaving my heart and life to chance.
Over the last 5 months I have made it a priority to exercise consistently and pay closer attention to what I eat. I started small and took baby steps. I've never felt deprived, I've just made more informed decisions. I'm not losing weight for the wedding, or to conform to societal beauty standards, I'm doing this for my quality of life. I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Only 7 more pounds to go until I reach a healthy BMI!
