Sweet peppers and hot peppers picking up in the gardens this week 🌶 The Purple Beauty bells and Black Hungarian hots have been the strongest here so far. Both are very productive and very tasty 😋 Both will be available for purchase at the Homestead farmstand this weekend.
After what seems like forever, the chilies are turning red this week! We should have some ready for you next week if you are interested.
A very curly cucumber. These painted serpent mekti cukes haven't been as prolific as I'd hoped (they didn't seem to like our very hot start to summer) but these are some of the best tasting cucumbers I've ever grown. The season that can't stop won't stop! Chanterelles ~ Based on my foraging yesterday my best guess is this will be the last week or possibly two for them on the menu at @heirloomrestnc then on to lactarius corrugis, polypores and so much more. So if you haven't got your chanterelle fix this year come out soon. @amstefaney has them in her award winning cake and on the savory side we have them in some squash fritters so there are plenty of options for you to enjoy this amazing mushroom. #cheforager#chanterelles

Tomatoes and green beans from the garden. This is the first batch of San Marzano roma tomatoes for us this year. We had a late start after a misfire. Looks like I'll be heading up the kitchen with the pressure canner tomorrow! Simple and easy way to peel tomatoes - clean them off, put them in a single layer in gallon baggies, and pop them in the freezer. The next day put them in a colander and run water over them. The peels will slip right off. Don't throw away the peels! Toss them in the dehydrator and thoroughly dry. Once dry, put them thru the food processor to turn into powder to use to flavor stews, soups, anything that you'll enjoy a bit of tomato flavor in! 😊
