Just got home from the latest trip to Iceland about 10 hours ago. Sitting on the porch, having my morning coffee, and it's almost like I'm lost. Being gone and in that crazy environment for two weeks, and now back in the sky chair so quickly has my head in a fog. Looking at the familiar backyard, yet seeing all of the brilliant colors of Iceland. It gives me pause; sitting here is definitely easier, but a large part of me is still longing for the Icelandic highlands.
This trip was the first time I have seen the aurora. It was a large part of why I planned the trip in September. I was not disappointed. It could not have been any better. I took this photo after getting out of the hot springs at Landmannalagar, at the foot of a large lava field, where hot water cascades down a waterfall into an almost waist deep natural pool. About two hours from the closest paved road, and further to any real civilization. Sat in the warm (hot!) water and watched these lights literally dance across the sky, before hopping out to take a few photos.
