Tuesday. A cool and drizzly morning. I see the trees covered in fog. Light rain showers on the fields and pavements. This moment holds a pristine awareness in my heart. So because of that I am starting my day with an Ayurvedic soup. Simple, nothing fancy and complex. "Cauliflower" mushroom in ginger, genmai vinegar and garlic base soup. Just a little bit of salt, nutmeg and pepper and a drop of olive oil. Last Sunday, a nice farmer knocked on our door and offered us these mushrooms that he gathered. He said it is too much for his consumption so he brought it to us. The cool-down is a vital, yet often undervalued and overlooked component of a safe and effective training session. It is in essence the reverse of the warm-up, as it provides the body and mind with a gradual transition from an exercising state to its pre-exercise resting state. ->Gradual return of blood pressure and heart rate to near resting levels;
->Maintain adequate venous return to prevent post-exercise blood pooling, hypotension and dizziness (foot movement required throughout sessions);
->Promote more rapid removal of lactic acid;
->Help lower levels of catecholamines (adrenaline) in the blood;
->Help reduce the likelihood of muscle soreness;
->Help the dissipation of body heat;
->Reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications;
->Provide mental and emotional balance following exercise stress;
->Provides opportunity to reflect on the preceding training.
Cooling down is achieved by gradually reducing the intensity of the exercise. For example, a individual may decrease the intensity of their workload by slowing down from running to jogging and from jogging to walking. The gradual reduction in exercise intensity would typically occur over a period of 5 minutes and would then be followed by approximately 5 minutes of stretching.
Make sure the next time you train, you do a proper cool-down. No excuses!

What can you eat before Yoga?
I'm getting asked this question a fair bit.
Traditionally, the ancient Yogis always practiced on an empty stomach and in a PERFECT WORLD it is reccomended that you do not eat for the 2 hours prior to class.
However, we do not live in a perfect world, and we cannot have you fainting from hunger either!
Something light and easy to digest like a GROOVY SMOOTHIE is a great choice if you simply know you need something.
I am also slightly obsessed with BEE POLLEN and coconut oil as an instant energy hit.

We spent a wonderful afternoon honouring the special day with the ladies, exploring what it means to truly honour ourselves and respect each other - both as women and as South Africans. We faced and transcended many of the limitations put on us by ourselves and others, and committed to celebrating both our shared roots and our individual flavours in ways that feel best to us going forward.

T is for Tuesday and T is for Turmeric
In the Ayurveda diet which means ‘the science of life’, everything that exists in the universe is made up of the 5 elements; earth, water, fire, air and space. Through your diet you can stay energized, grounded and glowing. One spice in particular is known for its golden colour; Turmeric.
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory spice. Ayurvedic doctors recommend consuming nearly 1tsp every day. Stemming from the plant cucuma longa, also related to ginger, curcumin is a powerful antioxidant within turmeric both known for their ability to tame chronic inflammation; candida, weight loss, insulin resistance, heavy metal toxicity, depression, brain fog . . . 💥WARNING- side effect of turmeric: it’s beautiful golden colour stains so be careful what and where you use it.
To boost and fully absorb turmeric benefits add black pepper to increase the bio-availability of curcumin by over 1000% 👩🍳Turmeric Infused Coconut Oil:
I put this sh** on everything!
3/4cup coconut oil
1/2tsp ginger powder
1/2tsp whole black peppercorn
3tsp turmeric powder
1. On low heat melt 1/4cup coconut oil in a sauce pan.
2. Once melted add peppercorn and stir occasionally for 2-3 minutes.
3. Add turmeric and ginger, cooking still on low heat for 2-3 minutes. It will become fragant! YUM
4. Add the remainder of the coconut oil and let cook for 15 minutes.
5. Take off heat and let cool slightly before straining into a jar. I store mine at room temperature.🍯🥄 Use in everything. For golden lattes, greasing pans, adding to dishes as 'butter'. Stay tuned for dairy free - turmeric hollandaise sauce! 👅
I went through most of my life so far, not taking myself seriously. Just going day to day, catching the wind, seeing where I go without trying, without wondering where exactly I would end up. I guess I just figured everything would work out, and I guess in a way that is true, as life has a way. But, I wasn't a priority. I went through life, without any willpower, without any care, until one day, when someone ground into my soul and took every part of me and turned it dark. ⠀
I didn't know who I was anymore. ⠀
It wasn't a nice feeling. Depression is a dark hole. But now I'm on the other side thanks to a load of healing and learning life strategies - the single most important thing I learnt though was that no one was going to look after me, I had to look after myself. Once I chose to become a priority in my life, and show up for myself. Amazing things happened - I gained confidence, I saw a different colour to the world, I started to feel great again.⠀
Don't let life suck you down. Don't live like a feather on the wind. Take control of your life, find what sets your soul on fire and go with it. Become a priority in your life. 🌟🌟🌟
