I’m finishing one challenge and jumping right into the next one!! 💪
Holidays are upon us, the season of overeating and indulging to much. I’ve been down that slippery slope way to many times. My solution? Challenge time!! I started a new exercise challenge today complete with nutritional guide. I plan to stick to it for the next 21 days for several reasons. ✨I do not want to gain weight during the holidays ✨I need my daily exercise for mental clarity and focus ✨I’m preparing to start a new 3 month challenge which starts in January 2018, so I need to continue now more then ever ✨challenge keeps me accountable with my nutrition
So who is ready to join me?? Who is ready to commit to their health and well-being?
One of the biggest challenges for many in getting started with any exercise or healthy activity is often finding the time or money to do it or the energy of getting a bag packed and get there! Sometimes it’s an issue of finding the right instructor or a suitable beginners class. Some might even feel insecure with their bodies, level of fitness or even not having the “correct” attire. If you live in a rural area or are bound to your home with small children it may even feel impossible to get started. ~
For me, the challenge was not being able to get to do it often enough to make it into a routine.
So I started from home. Now, the number one objection to start doing it from home is that the risk of injury is much greater as one might do the exercises/poses incorrectly and there is no instructor to help out with that. But I felt that the fact that I could do it every day, whenever I had time for free, was what made it all happen for me. There are many free classes on the internet such Ekhart yoga for instance that have great beginners videos @ekhartyoga. It’s easier to stick to a practice and do it every day if you can eliminate time and money. And I believe the best way is to start very small. I started with just 6 minutes and stuck to it even if I really wanted to do more. I slowly worked myself up to longer and longer sessions. This way the risk of injury is also smaller. If you do it in front of a mirror you can see better that you are doing it correctly. I felt more prepared to go and take those occasional classes as well where I could get corrections. And remember, it’s not about being an expert or pushing the body to the limit - It’s about getting the body moving in a healthy way and reap the many benefits that this gentle practice offers any fitness level. You can do it! ~

Around the time this picture was taken, 7 years ago this month, I knew something was up with my body. I was living with my sister, having just graduated college, and I remember my now-husband and I taking her dog out one evening. It was cold. And I hurt. My arms just ached. That feeling is lodged in my memory. I felt so horribly off, so strange. And I started crying as we stood out there waiting on Fred the dog. ——————————
I don't know that Daniel had seen me cry yet by this point, and he said, "Kacie...?" I stood there confused, helpless. "I just don't feel good..."
That's how it began. That's when all the infections, viruses, toxins, and poisons my body had collected over 22 years finally made themselves very known. Sickness is not the body's default state. Health is. So when you become chronically ill, it is past time to wake up and listen to your body and give it what it's screaming for: help already.
It took 3 years before I realized the Fibromyalgia diagnosis they gave me in January 2010 was a dismissal by doctors who couldn't/didn't want to help me. That I hadn't been given a life sentence but was now simply on a hard but oh-so-possible journey to healing. It took 2 more years to get to the doctor who found the Lyme co-infections and the mercury and the chicken pox virus and the umpteen other invaders compromising my body to the point I couldn't believe I was functioning at all. Actually, that's right—that's because our body's default is health, and it will draw on every resource possible to sustain any semblance of that.
And then came DNRS and God said, "It's time. Heal."
I wish that girl could have known what all I know now. But I had to live it to learn it. So I am grateful for it. I wouldn't wish it all away if I could. ——————————————————
All I wish is that those aware of my experience would benefit from it. And that they would believe me that health IS also possible for them, and if I can work for it, anyone can. Because the hope is real.

I could easily be angry and upset because my body feels like it’s working against me. In the past, I would’ve been an anxious mess about not being able to get my workouts in (definitely had a moment yesterday lol) and would just push through the pain and make it worse. I even tried to go to the gym today and attempted a workout but couldn’t finish (see story). My physique can’t be my focus right now. My HEALTH is top priority. I HAVE to heal my body. I’m smiling here after leaving the gym (frustrating because I haven’t been able to complete a workout in a week) and going on a walk instead because I GET to work on my health. I GET to heal my body. It’s a journey 🙏🏼❤️
Results are in!!!!! I finished my 21 day challenge and I’m very happy with the results! I had a few cheats during that time but I did not let that define the purpose of my goal.
I re-evaluated my food intake and even though I was eating less, I maximized my choices, quality and preparation and did not feel deprived or hungry. And if I felt on any given day I was hungrier I would opt for additional veggies and/or lean protein. I avoided carbs like breads, rice, white, potatoes and stuck with sweet potatoes and beans as my form of carbs, in small amounts.
Drum roll please.... 5.7 lbs lost
7 Total inches
My mid section is where I lost most of it, 2 inches off my waist!

Gratitude flow tonight with @78annabelle, and she said something in class that rocked my thoughts a bit.
"So be grateful for standing. To be honest, I can't think of a time in my life I couldn't stand.", she said.
I thought, I can. I remember not being able to stand. I remember being wheelchair-bound. I remember casts and splints over my whole legs, meant to keep me stable. And it dropped me straight to gratitude.
I can STAND. I can do freaking YOGA. I know what it's like to not move at all and oh my gosh, how amazing is it that with my spine being a mess and my brain not working that I can move?!
Grateful. Humbled. What a reframe- I have full charge of my health and even on the days when it feels like absolute crap...
I am rooted. I am strong. I stand.
