Flax seeds have been consumed as food for around 6,000 years and may have very well been the worlds first cultivated superfood! Flax seed benefits could help you improve digestion, give you clear skin, lower cholesterol, reduce sugar cravings, balance hormones, fight cancer and promote weight loss… and that’s just the beginning! Flaxseeds, sometimes called linseeds, are small, brown, tan or golden-colored seeds that are the richest sources of a plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in the world!
One of the most extraordinary benefits of flax seeds is that they contain high levels of mucilage gum content. Mucilage is a gel-forming fiber that is water soluble and has incredible benefits on the intestinal tract. The mucilage can keep food in the stomach from emptying too quickly into the small intestine which can increase nutrient absorption. Also, flax is extremely high in both soluble and insoluble fiber which can support colon detoxification, fat loss and reduce sugar cravings.
The journal of Nutrition and Metabolism found that adding flax seeds into your diet can naturally reduce cholesterol levels. The soluble fiber content of flax seeds trap fat and cholesterol in the digestive system so that it unable to be absorbed. Soluble fiber also traps bile, which is made from cholesterol in the gallbladder. The bile is then excreted through the digestive system, forcing the body to make more, using up excess cholesterol in the blood and lowering cholesterol overall.
Maybe the biggest flax seed benefits come from it’s ability to promote digestive health. The ALA in flax can help protect the lining of the digestive tract and maintain GI health. It has been shown to be beneficial for people suffering from Crohn’s disease or other digestive ailments, as it can help reduce gut inflammation.

Wednesdays are big weightlifting days for me so I always load healthy carbs/starches in my two meals prior to working out (I usually eat anywhere from 3-5 meals a day depending on my activity level). I also try to space my pre-workout meal at least 2-3 hours before I arrive at the gym. This gives my body time to process the carbs so they're ready to use later! 💪🏽
In my bowl:
// rice and cauli rice mix / radish / curried skinless chicken thighs / daikon sprouts / steamed zucchs / shaved cucumber//
I made dairy-free pesto and it was 😍 .
Also, I was super excited because i got to use some of the basil I grew on my little balcony garden! .
3 cups lightly packed basil leaves
1/3 cup toasted pine nuts (350F for 7 min)
1/4 cup avocado oil
1-2 cloves garlic (chopped roughly)
Salt + pepper
Add garlic, basil and pine nuts to food processor. Process for a few seconds then add oil slowly through the Feed tube. That's it!
Living out of town, we usually have to make a whole day out of running errands. When it was time to feed my family, I just couldn't do fast food. This is something we often do, pick up a large salad, salmon , a veggie tray and fruit from Sobeys. Cheaper, more filling and much more wholesome and nutritious than fast food. #smallstepstohealthy#healthyideas#goodfood#holistichealth#holisticnutrition
To all my lovely clients & insta-friends committing themselves to cultivating true healing after years of fighting chronic illness or disease, IT'S OK TO BE SCARED. When you're feeling scared, it's a sign you're taking a brave step forward 🙌🏻 So keep walking, I promise it's worth it. If nothing else, you'll gain tremendous courage...but chances are you'll gain much more than that 😘 More on this subject in Cultivate's guide to chronic illness relief (free on my website--link in bio) where I break down my journey to renewed health after living over a decade chronically ill & with a hidden cancer in my neck... 🤕XO! 💓
Great day today - my coffee kept me fuelled at work all morning and I had my first meal at 12.30pm. My dinner tonight is steamed broccoli & cabbage, creamy cauliflower mash (made in my nutribullet with steamed cauliflower, a dash of unsweetened almond milk, 1 tbs organic creme fraishe & Himalayan pink salt) and a salmon fillet fried in coconut oil.
I also had a really helpful first physio session for my lower back injury. I've found out that I've hurt my facet joint and have some muscle inflammation. Alas no working out for the next week, but I'll just do more walking and plenty of stretching. I've also got kinesiology tape on. 2 more sessions scheduled for next week so hopefully I'll be on the mend soon 🤞
Big meal for a very hungry girl!! Started my day off with my cleanse shake & a hard workout at OTF💪Came running home & made a salad with black beans, rice, tomatoes, & cilantro with drizzled olive oil. Used yesterday's leftover al pastor meat to make two tacos that were amazing! I bought corn tortillas that were made with cactus & chia seed while I was in Mexico & brought a bunch home. So happy I bought them! Super yummy & healthy 😋

Well over 10 yrs ago I began to include adaptogenic herbs into my lifestyle. It was the obvious choice as the next best way to uplevel my health, as I had already gotten so far after making such significant shifts over the years prior.
The tonics came with me thru my evolution into where I am today & that's what I love most - they adapted and met me where I was at any given time. There's no diet to follow or mindset to embody - it's just a matter of adding them into your regular routine and you'll be off & running!
Working under the radar to a degree, I didn't yet realize the depth of potent effects they were having until I became pregnant, and was able to be completely confident and at peace in the energetic bubble I created to block out fear.
Tonic herbs are pure magic for the woman that wants to grow, evolve, and develop into the most harmonious expression of the self possible!
If you'd like support creating an empowered strategy that always works in your favor, or want to learn more about these foods - find what you need via the link in my bio or PM me! 📷 of my Everlasting Youth elixir blend by @sahari (thanks beautiful!) #ediblegoddess#everlastingyouth
One month #vegan 🌱🍎🍓🍌 has already significantly changed my health! Of course i wont complain about the 6 pound weight loss but its so much more! I suffer from wolff Parkinson White syndrome which most people dont know. It is a rare cardiac disorder! Ive been following the holistic approach for three years now but never considered healing my body with food! I wont say im cured but i can say that i no longer wake upwith facial edema, I have not been short of breath in over two weeks, I havnt had palpitations in three weeks which i had nearly everyday! Vegan isnt for everyone but i learned first hand that you dont need to eat protein from animal flesh to sustain vitality, muscle mass, strength, or overall health after trying a clean, high protein nutriton plan consisting of animal protein leaving me feeling worse than ever. Image coming shortly of the body changes 💪🏽 #vegan#plantbased#plantbasedpower#plantfueled#vegansofinstagram#vitality#whatthehealth#hearthealth#holisticnutrition#foodie#veganbuilt#fitnessmotivation#plantbasedprotein
This is the way I measure my ketosis cuz its way cheaper. If my blood glucose is 85 or lower, and I feel fine, then I know I'm good. Well this week, my BG has been staying so nice and low all of the time. I even ate a bunch of my granola, (@theketobakingco) yesterday, yet my post prandial measure following was 70. Not that thats surprising, since it is very low carb 😁, but I just usually struggle to get it below 80 no matter what I eat, or at least so I thought...like, I used to eat pork rinds and a bit of stevia-sweetened/sea salted peanut butter, (dont knock it til you try it), butter, half an avocado, eggs, & some bacon, as a meal, and then have my BG stay around 90 all day long. Or even 95 or 100 sometimes. 😡 But now I know that avocado and I do not mix, (for the time being).... I already knew that @megtherhn knows what she's talking about: removing the foods that one is sensitive to, (immunilogically triggered by), can profoundly benefit ones health and well-being. But it sure is neat to measure it. I've also been putting in the effort to get much better sleep this week, (e.g., not watching TV, even with my blue blockers on, before bed), which of course plays a role in ones insulin sensitivity. I hate posting this cuz I dont want to jinx it, but that's silly, right? 😅
Shared more about my salad in my Instagram stories today but wanted to suggest some good additions when transitioning to a vegan diet as I have been the last few weeks.
So beans, avocados and olives are great alternatives to meat and cheese in your salad. These foods are high in fiber, fat and protein which will keep you satiated and help balance blood sugar so you don't have a crash and crave coffee and sugar by 3:00.
Believe it or not there's nothing you can get from meat that you can't get from fruits and veggies. All veggies have some amount of protein in them so if you eat enough of them you're getting enough protein. Keep in mind we are all different and each of our bodies have different needs. Vegan may not be right for you but at this time in my life I feel like it's right for me so I'll see how it goes and keep you posted. If it resonates with you try it. If it doesn't don't. .
today, earthling and i introduced the dosterschill boys to avocado toast. talk about a life-altering accomplishment. today, smooshed green things. tomorrow, the multiverse. why nom on 'cados? monounsaturated fats, carotenoids, vitamins a/b/c/e/k (one fruit a day keeps the doc away, hey), potassium, soluble fiber, folate, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and 3g of protein per cup. essentially, what i'm trying to say is: avocados have superpowers. if you smear 'em on toast, you may just find yourself with some too. (edit/disclaimer: the furbabies did not eat the toast)

Mucho ojo! 👀

Have you been curious as to all this talk of fermented foods of late? Wondering how you could make your own at home? I have a session for you!
I am leading a free one hour workshop coming up on Wednesday August 2nd at the @planetorganicmarket in Royal Oak, north west Calgary at 7pm. In this one hour workshop, I will briefly speak to the benefits of fermented foods, and will demo the ins and outs of how to make your own at home. I will demo how to make a simple Dilly Carrot ferment and a simple Sauerkraut so that you too can try your hand fermenting at home. *
Ferments are full of live enzymes and carry a healthy dose of probiotics, it's kinda like eating your vegetables and supplements in super-boost mode. Frugal-friendly to boot! Suffice it to say, your grandmother and great-grandmothers would be proud.
No registration required, just bring your sweet self and a grocery bag. You'll be wanting to bring some veggies home to ferment. Soon, soon you will be saying 'FERMENT ALL THE THINGS!'. I look forward to being your cheerleader.

Wow! Facebook just reminded me this was 1 year ago, this was day 2 of my first 10 day transformation and when I really fell in love with the awesome green power shake! 🙌🏽🌿✨ •
This is so much more than a cleanse, this has brought in DEEP levels of transformation mentally, physically and spiritually and it all started with saying yes to my heart. My heart was telling me it was time to love myself unconditionally and when I declared that the Universe provided the me with the vehicle to take me where I wanted to go physically, but I didn't know that would lead to my emotional and financial freedom as well. So much has changed in the past year, I have released 26 pounds of extra weight that was no longer serving me (and the negative self talk / emotions that had stored themselves there) I had the courage to attend a women's gathering that really showed my friends and family a side of me I was afraid to let out, I gave myself permission to work on myself and invest in myself. I worked with amazing mentors like @soulstarmedicine and @straightupfearless and while things are different than I expected, I welcome different now. I trust this is where I am called right now. I am honored to be of service to others who feel called to transform their own lives and transform the planet as well! We have an amazing community cleanse coming up as we prepare to raise our frequency welcoming in the potent transformative energy of the eclipse season coming in August! I have willingly walked into the darkness of my own cocoon and prepared for the parts of me that were no longer serving me to die, so that I could be reborn 🦋🔥 Are you ready to step in the transformation portal? I would love to support you 🌿🙌🏽 DM for $50 off your package and to learn about the awesome sale going on through the end of the month! Blessings! ✨🌿🌈 #magictribe#plantbased#transformation#eclipseseason#holisticnutrition#butterflymedicine
Dis- a Latin prefix meaning "apart", "asunder", "away", "utterly", or having a privative negative or reversing force.
Ease- Comfort, relaxation and freedom from pain, stress or anxiety.
From this definition we see Dis-Ease is an imbalance causing specific reactions. Can Dis-eases be reversed? Dr.Sebi, Dr. Llaila Afrika, Dr.Otto Warburg, Dr. Max Gerson and many others have proved this to be fact , there is a direct connection between food and Dis-ease.
How does your body signal you to let you know there is an imbalance?
1. Premature aging: there is a tremendous amount of research that suggests that a nutritious diet promotes skin health and delays extrinsic aging.
2.Oral health: a poor diet also effects oral health. Inflamed or bleeding gums, mouth pain, cavities, halitosis are all signals that a lifestyle change is overdue. Studies are showing that swollen or bleeding gums are contributed to low intake of vitamin C.
3. Excessive weight gain/loss: Unintentional weight loss can be a warning sign of malnutrition, while weight gain can be poor dietary habits.
4. Poor cognitive function: A 2013 study highlighted the importance of Omega3 fatty acids in healthy brain function. Walnuts and Avocados are great sources of Omega 3 fatty acids.
There are so many other ways that the body will communicate with you to let you know there is a imbalance or deficiency , it's our duty to listen and take corrective action and restore the balance. Our bodies were designed to repair itself but it cannot when we are not giving it the proper nutrition . Scientific evidence shows that the root of many Dis-eases stem from poor diet and lifestyle . Imbalances don't present themselves over night , they are gradual and build up over time.
I am a huge fan of skin care for anti aging and beauty benefits, but by far the best way to keep your skin youthful and beautiful is from the inside out ✨
Eating foods high in antioxidants dramatically reduce aging, like blueberries which have so many more benefits like brain health, they fight cancer, help with digestive issues and more.. my favorite way to eat blueberries are to eat them my the handful like candy or to add them in smoothies 😛
What's your favorite way to eat your blubes?

Looks like a good evening for a comforting dinner with quinoa and marinated mushrooms 😋☔ pair it with some sauteed greens and the dinner is sorted.
The day started well with pancakes for breakfast today ❤ as you can see from my Insta Stories - fair enough when you know that you are both going to have a busy day and the last weeks have been..well..a little crazy 😰#amatterofnourishment
Making nutrition and healthy lifestyle changes can be hard. We can be a creature of habit and change can scare us sometimes. Some of the clients I work with are ready to jump in with both feet and make huge changes all at once, while others need a more tip-toe gradual approach. Both mindsets are fine! /
Take the approach to change that you are most comfortable with but keep moving forward. Positive momentum happens when we make some progress every day and this long-term provides big, sustainable results.
