Painting Bunting pair.
While hiking this past weekend I saw more of these buntings than I’ve ever seen before. I think because on this particular trail where it is normally wooded, hurricane Irma had knocked down many trees and made the trail a bit more open with many tall grasses. The buntings seemed to be enjoying the seeds and soft green parts of the grass. Because of its beautiful colors this species is often caught for the pet trade in its wintering grounds; the female is quite camouflage though (swipe to see one perfectly imitating a leaf 😜). While reporting this species in eBird it came up as a “sensitive species”, which I read will keep this birds location from being shared publicly.
stray dog running around #hollywoodlakes#straydog#straydogs#hollywoodfl come on people.... no collar , no tags, seems well fed and can’t stand still long enough for me to put a leash on. mid size. kinda black or dark brown looks like shepherd . why do people let their dogs run wild like this.
Pics from last night's Hope for the Holidays event.
