Things are never entirely perfect but lazy autumn Sunday mornings with all their golds and yellows and browns are pretty damn close. Especially as I lay here cuddling with SeaGoat while my love makes the coffee and does composting toilet chores... 😊#spoiled
As part of @thecitytalking ‘Fashion in leeds’ series, me and @searlaitmccrea spoke about our motivations, hopes and plans before we set off on our journey in our self built camper (@betweenthetrees_ ) at the beginning of summer.

We used to go out for coffee nearly daily, we would eat out a few meals per week, and we didn’t really think twice about grabbing an Uber for $10 to go a few miles. Now going to a coffee shop is once a week (if even) alternative to public library’s (library’s are closed Sundays otherwise), we eat out at most 3 times a month (and going out to eat also includes a cheap sandwich or taco shop), and we just spent 3 weeks in Moab because we we needed to wait for enough gas money in the budget to travel again. We love this though! You don’t have to have a ton of money to live this life, outdoors is free (@outdoors_is_free 😉) & that’s all we need to feed our soul. We’ve seen so many amazing things we may have skipped over if we had money to keep moving and keep us inside. We may not be rich, but our pockets are filled with adventures.
Home is where the kitchen sink only fits a couple dishes. It's where we have to hunch under our bed to cut on the fold up chop board, and then being able to grab your butt from the couch. It's having to go outside to turn the propane to our stove on/off. Home is having our kitchen in our friend's driveways, festivals, some place completely secluded, or even just Walmart. We're perfectly content having less space in our home if it gives us the ability to make home anywhere. -N
Another #storage idea I'm working on: the clothing storage box and drawers under the bed will also be used as a bench so you can sit 2 extra people at the table, and part of the bed will slide back to reveal the bench. However, when the bed is fully extended, the gap between the bench and bed base would be wasted space. Fitting this elasticated net will allow me to use all that space for storage and will also prevent whatever's stored there from falling out while driving. I'll make the net removable so when you want to use the bench you simply move the net. #vanlife
My father in law asked an interesting question the other day. "Do you get the urge to travel even more the longer that you live in the van?" We have been in San Diego for about 3 weeks now helping with some projects at their house, making some changes to our van and Sara getting in plenty of momma time. (She is a total momma's girl) 👸
Yes we are ready to hit the road and see new places but I don't think we have become more stir crazy after 5 months in the van. I think we have realized how much we love the lifestyle that comes with living on the road and traveling and are ready to get back to that lifestyle. Waking up in new places, taking photos and videos in beautiful locations, trying new breweries and making new friends.

Cockpit crew ready for takeoff 🛫...! Well with about 100ps Rudi is a relaxed and calm van... Till now we managed every road and ever steep climb. We just learn to take it easy and don’t rush and we are sure that he will takes us everywhere we want to go.
Once someone wrote on Instagram: „It’s a slow car, but a fast house“.
Did you know I’m traveling the country full time looking for the new State/s to call home?
Here is a flashback pic when all 3 of our mapping apps took us to dead end road. Still bummed we didn’t just make camp for the night at the end of the road ... not like we were blocking traffic.
For those of you who have been wondering what the inside of the van will (sort of) look like!! Please excuse the weird materials, there weren't too many options ... 😂 everything is to scale! THANKS FOR THE FREE SOFTWARE @sketchup_official
The bed is really starting to take shape!
We were initially going to use 25mm ply for the bed walls, but in the end opted for the Scandinavian sauna look.
This way the supports for the middle are already build into the design, aaaaand it satisfies that small part of us that really wanted panelling on the walls but couldn't afford it 😢
Did you know...this is where we live? I don't share many photos of our life here on this account but we share all the little moments of this happy little life over on our @themotorhomememoirs account! If you like simple things, cats and photos of food give us a follow over there and get to know the real Mallory + Justin!
