How did Oceana Condo in Bal Harbour take care of its $5M Jeff Koons sculpture? Very carefully. This special protective case fit over and around the sculpture, and took two days to install.
post #hurricaneirma notes:
guy at Home Depot in NY when looking for chainsaw "Tell your family we are thinking of them even though we don't know them;" utility trucks with license plates from Michigan, Illinois, Ohio; power lineman from out of town buying Canes clothes because he doesn't have any; reintroducing myself to neighbors; moving, clearing tree limbs, wood and leaves but these guys next to me are doing this on the weekend and will continue to do this weeks straight; tree and leaf pile becomes a massive fortress wall around our house; more and more fans and lanterns as people who get power drop them off; "second storms" indoors as the days go by and nerves get frayed; grateful it was not worse (look at those islands), for my family and friends who all stepped up during tense times and for calmer, cooler days.

I have seen some shocking things thanks to ol' #hurricaneirma , but this...this big old tree and it's mighty roots just toppled over. It ripped up sod and soil and fell two feet short of the bar. You gave us your best shot, Irma and you left some scars, but you didn't get US. You know what did stay standing? A lot of palm trees. Built to be flexible and blow with the wind...to ride out the storm. That's what this town and these people did and will continue to do. The heart of the community and its humanity have been left bare and beautiful. #neighborhelpingneighbor . #hitmewithyourbestshot#naplesstrong#naplesflorida#2017#love#sweetsouthernsmalltownlife
Jamie has been so helpful and resilient during this trip to the BVI.
He's powered through, been extremely strong and courageous, and has done what it takes to help the BVI while also preparing for #HurricaneMaria 💪🏽
Before Hurricane Irma moved in/A peaceful sunrise after an intense Irma.
My heart & prayers are with everyone affected by Irma. Just remember, the material things can be replaced. Keep the sentimental things in your heart. The most important thing is your health & safety.
Irma was strong but you are stronger! Sometimes it may feel overwhelming as if it will never end, but it will. We will recover. Just breathe & take it one day at a time.
For those who lost their lives, my deepest condolences to their family and friends.
I have never before so badly wanted to help people. Let's come together in love and brainstorm how we can be a part of the post-storm solution. It's time to unite and provide tools for health, wellness and happiness for those locally and those further down south. I hope you can join me for a general interest meeting on Friday at 1 pm. Can't make it? Stay tuned for a weekend meeting or DM me for more info!
Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert at the @wynwoodyard tonight! Let's come together and help our neighbors in the #FloridaKeys that were affected by #HurricaneIrma . This event is free; however a donation of $10 is suggested. Food trucks, good music, and helping Florida's most BEAUTIFUL islands. 💙
The Florida Keys has always had the most special place in my heart. Not only was I there last month, but its where I said my first words, spent my summers as a child, and where my love of the ocean truly flourished. If you can, stop by & support the cause, it will definitely be appreciated. Don't forget to continue sending any & all donations like water, water, water & no more water, non perishable foods, clothes, feminine hygiene products, etc to the Red Cross & other nonprofit drop off locations around South Florida. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
We have been very fortunate in the upper keys. We were spared the brunt of the impact from hurricane Irma. Many people in the lower keys were not as lucky. The damages varied across the board. It's extremely important to differentiate destruction portrayed in the media, and the actual hope and renewal that makes our keys family strong. Thanks to the noble efforts of @leeleesaunders and @maddiekaufman we were able to deliver well needed supplies gathered in Miami down to the lower keys with the help of the @caribbeanclubkl. While this is a small effort there is much work to be done to ensure the safety and well being of many down in the keys and beyond. I encourage you guys if you want to help to reach out to friends and family in Florida and help continue supporting the Keys!

last night, logan and i joined a small group of our denver community to flow and cultivate peace and healing energy for those affected by the recent natural disasters.
the @kindnessyoga class left me feeling humbled for all that was lost. we were reminded to give thanks for the basics - running water, working sewage systems and our sacred homes that are in tact. it made me pause, soften and return to love. with a heavy heart, my prayers and energies are in full force toward every person who's life has been affected by these natural disasters.
from our community in denver, CO, know this: we are with you. we are one. we will heal. ♥️

Please send thoughts, prayers, funds, labor, goods, etc. to any of the countries, territories, states that have experienced the wrath of Mother Nature. I'm pretty sure this hurricane season is her way of screaming at us to open our eyes to climate change. So please let's all do our best to live responsibly, simply, and sustainably. #notinsensitive#eventhoughsomeoneinthewhitehousethinksso
The tingle my lips felt as I bit into a fresh grapefruit straight off the tree, the way my stomach turned when I braved up and ate mutton for the first time, the awe and fear that the Boiling Lake evoked in me, the smile that didn't leave my face from arrival to departure of this lush paradise. All of these memories are rushing back as I hear of the destruction that this island of kindness, sustainability, and beauty just experienced with Hurricane Maria #dominica
My #HurricaneIrma Experience
Everyone, if you see this post, I ask you to take 15 minutes to sit down and read this and share it on your page. This is pretty serious what I'm about to share and I hope it changes your perspective on life, love, compassion, forgiveness, and much more. Things went from good to really hard to amazing.
I have been working rotating 12 hour midnight shifts at a hurricane special needs shelter here in SW FLA during the category 5 Hurricane Irma and I am continuing to do so until we get everyone back to where they need to safely go home, however long that may take. We are in this for the long haul. I haven't had any cell service or internet service until now. I've been completely out of touch with minimal contact with my wife and parents. I have a lot to say. Please forgive me if this is all over the place, as I am deeply affected and moved by what I have been involved in and have seen during this time. It has changed my life permanently for the better.
In my current position, I knew if a hurricane came, I would need to be working a shelter for special needs individuals who are dependent upon oxygen or simply could not help themselves and may be bed-ridden. Many of these individuals are completely dependent upon their caretakers and may have some disabilities they are dealing with both mental and physical. Some may even be on hospice at the end of their journey.
I drove to the hurricane shelter with some packaged food and some clothes prepared to stay as long as they needed me to work. Upon arrival, I was blown away by the incredible work of the preparedness teams. I did not realize my life was about to dramatically change for the better. (Full story on my Facebook page, please read it and share it from there if it touches your heart in any way) 🙏🏼 #hurricaneirma#hurricane#hurricaneirma2017 🌀 #hurricanerelief#emergencypreparedness#firstresponders#firstresponder
Never seen damage like this before... truly devastating but the heart of the keys is resounding. Its easy to see why the Thompsons have made this place home. This has been a sinister and astounding hurricane season and I am shook. Love to the Keys and VI's and everyone else who is affected. #hurricaneirma
