For the first year and a half that I knew my husband, we didn’t live in the same state.
Hell, when I first met him he was getting ready to head back to Afghanistan. We met by chance and timing wasn’t good but we agreed to keep in touch and he’d let me know when he would be in my neighborhood again. Fast forward almost 6 months until I saw him again.
Nearly a year of racking up airline miles, traveling back and forth to see each other on occasional weekends, many, many trips to the airport, lots of tears (from me, because I’m a big emotional sap 😂)... we survived.
I still get a pit in my stomach anytime we go to the airport thinking of those days 10 years ago that we’d only see each other a handful of days every month. I couldn’t justify moving at that time and I prayed for a reason to be able to pack up and leave. But I knew God had a plan; and when my boss at the time could no longer afford to pay me, I started packing.
I fully believe if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it, and He did. I’m thankful for those struggles as much as it sucked because it built a solid, strong foundation for our marriage now.
A quick little work trip for Luke today but it still doesn’t make those goodbyes easier. Still the same pit.
This season of life we’re in, it’s crazy. It’s taxing at times. The kids demand a lot. But despite the “hard” we give it to God, and embrace the journey. And besides, it’s good to miss him a bit. 😂 I think absence does make the heart grow fonder!
