92(?) ICP furnace, way dirty. Inducer housing paint burnt off, surface temp at 200°. Temp in airstream away from line of sight is 125°. Almost completely orange flame. Do you know what is happening here? Radiation, convection, conduction not something I see everyday. #hvac#hvactech#hvaclife
One of the oldest Rheem furnaces I’ve seen and worked on. Home built in 1956, this is the original furnace! The homeowner was actually disappointed that I didn’t get it fired up. It was caked in fur and dust, spent an hour cleaning it, the thermopile was reading 325, but wouldn’t fire the main burner. Even after cleaning the pilot assembly. It’s certainly time for a replacement. Listed as a winter gas air conditioner. #hvac#hvactech#hvaclife
Modern society can be funny if you really think about it deeply. We demand comfort in every room and structure we occupy. But behind this notion the forces at work to provide said comforts are rarely seen or discussed. Underneath one of the many iron buildings of the Flatiron District lies a chiller and sender unit that connects to a massive cooling tower. This unit, located three stories below the ground, is responsible for maintaining cool temperatures for 20 stories and neatly 500,000 square feet of office space. No small feat considering that on hot days this unit can run 24/7 and power 24 hour elevator banks. Underneath Manhattan is an underground city that connects every building and is responsible for keeping internet, water, bathrooms, cable, electricity, and climate control on. Our society requires a lot of upkeep and a lot of people to maintain it.

It wasn't our first choice to run this 100 amp feeder on the surface but we were late getting involved in this project and the apartment unit was already finished. All branch circuits are stapled/strapped just above the drywall within a foot of the top of the panel.
