When visiting the region of Provence in the south of France one of the things people long to see are those rolling violet fields of lavender. The lavender blooms in the summer, with its color peaking generally in early July. We were lucky enough during our trip to be there as the fields were coming into bloom. One of the favored photo spots for lavender is at the Abbaye Norte-Dame de Senanque, an abbey dating back to the 12th century that is still active today. The field of lavender spread out in front of the abbey makes for a picture postcard scene. Beware though that it attracts throngs of tourists by the bus load daily. I was lucky enough somehow to snap this picture with no one in the shot despite there being hordes of people all around.
