🇺🇸Having previously known poverty, Soutine now enjoyed a comfortable life and could stay at luxury hotels and spas: he divided his time between Paris, the Riviera and the Pyrenees. In towns where he and Zborowski went to take waters, he observed the staff and painted the well-known series of bellboys and waiters. Soutine seems to have felt a bond with these lowly workers, victims of a rejection he himself had experienced. Through typical workers, Soutine evoked the endless mass of the working class.

"No escape"
I haven't really created anything in a long time. Feeling stuck and lacking faith in myself. I guess it just comes with trying to live a creative life. I really want to stop self-critisizing so much, and to just make whatever I want without all that pointless fear getting in the way. So what if it's no good half the time, - it will still be me just trying to express myself. That's what I should be focusing on right? 💙

The Ravine in Summer, 1900

William Brymner (Canadian, 1855-1925) "In the late 1870s, William Brymner joined a growing number of Canadian artists in Paris who immersed themselves in the French academic tradition. During his six-year stay in France, Brymner developed a strong focus on figure studies and the narrative genre. Painted 14 years after his return to Canada, this canvas reveals a softening of academic rigidness in favour of a more naturalistic style. By this time, he had been in contact with Maurice Cullen and other artists who were moving towards a new way of painting the Canadian landscape. In this lush summer scene, Brymner effectively applies Impressionist techniques to achieve a sense of luminosity in his canvas.

Brymner was born in Greenock, Scotland in 1855. Died in Wallasey, Cheshire in 1925. Following his schooling in Richmond, Quebec, and at the Conseil des arts et manufactures in Montréal, William Brymner RCA focused on architecture. When he went to Paris in 1878, it was to take further courses in architecture. However, once there, he decided to devote himself to painting. In 1886, he taught painting at the Art Association of Montreal. Brymner, who is admired for the delicacy of his art, painted portraits and interiors in a figurative style, in addition to murals and watercolours on silk. He is considered the first great teacher of painting in Canada, and is admired for his respect for academic training and his great receptiveness to the talents of others. He had the admiration of his students and would become a major influence on the development of Canadian painting."

Sadly, I can't be two places at once but I can still do a painting from my own sketches of a venue (done prior to the event) and photos of the guests provided by the client. I just put the people in the setting. This was an engagement party. #liveeventpainter #acrylicpainter #impressionist #seaside #engagementparty #gloucesterma #pastelsketch
Oil on board.
Another little oil painting sketch I did a few years back.
I remember driving along and noticing a potentially good view for a painting. I sat in my car and painted this view of Mount Warrenheip

Bathers in the river
I got out today a little with my camera in New Jersey. The truth is I shot from my drivers seat but the snow was so great on the trees I couldn’t pass it up.
___________
If you have followed my work for a while or looked at my website you would see that I have a large series of work influenced by Jackson Pollock. I firmly believe that part of what influenced his work was looking at brambles when he was pissing out his his name in the dirt outside his studio one drunken night, thus began the drip paintings.

I keep talking about how i'm slowly falling in love with art again and here is another example. Galleries are such emotional places for me.. I'm not sure why. I feel more like crying when I stand in front of a Monet or a Van Gogh than anything else!! So much love and time went into these paintings, this was their life and it's so wonderful to feel part of these little pockets in time.🌿💙 #monet #painting #gallery #claudemonet #impressionist #fitzwilliammuseum #cambridge #totesemosh #beautiful #littlethings
