**new blog** Talking about comparisonitis - yep it's a word I made up 😂😂 My girl is amazing but it doesn't stop me comparing what I do for her to what other parents do for their kids with additional needs. #senblog#ukparentbloggers#cp#disabilityadvocate

🎀Yenny .
Watch out everyone! Lyla is on the move!
This tremendous piece of kit is called a Bugzi and thanks to an amazing organization called Meru, Lyla gets to borrow this for as long as she needs it for just a £100 deposit.
She's such a smart cookie she had it figured out in seconds and once we have refined the position of the switches there will be no stopping her!
This is the first time in Lyla's life that she has had the opportunity to move independently, to go wherever she wants to in our house (downstairs anyway!) without any of us carrying or pushing her.
She's a while away from getting a proper electric wheelchair of her own but this is the first huge step. #mobility#independent#cp#cpwarrior#polymicrogyria#cerebralpalsy#bugzi#meru
Ok I’ll be honest, I pulled this toy from his toy area at home to try to sell online. We’ve been trying for so long to get him to move forward instead of backwards. So long that he is waaaaay too tall. Sometimes I need to “get rid of” or put away items to not focus so much on trying to get him to do things like “other kids”. Just being honest. Sometimes it can be overwhelming and frustrating and disappointing and heck sad. Well, as I took it away he reached for it and I put it down. Then ..... TADA! This goof ball I think has been holding out on us! HE. MOVED. FORWARD. Still going to sell this toy but I think Santa will need to bring him a new one 🙌🏽
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Just a glimpse: as an educator and a parent of a child with special needs, I often live in the world of “can’t”. When Asher is having an assessment or when I am assessing a child it’s all about meeting a percentage of inability to ensure services, to qualify. (Yes a child can have needs but not meet a percentage of delay to get all the services we know he/she needs. The state of special education: not enough funds) So conversations typically will include a lot of “he can’t...”, “he’s not showing...”. “He’s not able to...”, etc. Its sad but reality. I have to remind myself and other teachers to of course find those delays but also look for the “he can...”, “he is able...”. It makes a world of difference. 💙.

October Down syndrome awareness month day 22. So excited for Yoni to join @funtastic_talent where he finally gets to be with typical peers. Our community has the most amazing state of the art programs for children with special needs, but it is still segregated just for children with special needs. Yoni has made waves and changed perceptions, but we still have a long way to go! People are beginning to accept different but feel so much better that they are not different, that our kids are still not fully included in society and in schools. Our community has very little for a fully inclusive education and fully inclusive extracurricular program. Yoni has very little opportunity to be with typical peers. We want our children to grow up and be contributing productive members of society and of the community, but how can we expect that if they are not given an opportunity to be FULLY integrated and included? I am so utterly grateful for the amazing @funtastic_talent program that understands the importance of inclusion and always welcomes Yoni with open arms. #inclusionisthenewcool#downsyndromeawarenessmonth#downiswhatsup#nothingdownaboutit#bestsundayprogram
Ni kan se Devin fint skyddad av alla mål. Skönt att alla kan inkluderas på fotbollsträningarna om så på ett annorlunda vis! Det är inte så att Devin skulle rymma men det kan vara så att hans mamma är lite dålig med siktet! 😅 #inclusionisthenewcool
|| so excited because #friday 🙌and this guy is auditioning for his school talent show 👏 he's so sure of who he is + confident in his abilities. he's convinced that he is more alike than different. this is inclusion + it is beautiful. no fear. no comparison. no inadequacy. nothing holding him back! shine like the stars today, buddy. it's what you were created to do ✨ || #evan#theluckyfew#morealikethandifferent#inclusionisthenewcool#rocktober
