Today is day off! Walk around the market all afternoon, home food revival (leitão for my portuguese), get a very delicious balinese coffee and see the sunset on top of the rice field...with a cold cold beer! But tomorrow, I will share what happened after we left the rangers!
Look at them! They are the forest police, the rangers of forest of Gunung Leuser. They look after the orangutans, the education of the kids and the all village! We had a very beautiful bike ride as a way to say goodbye to them!
Once in a while you come across something truly inspiring. Kinda of a place where you swear at in awe - before entering. The imposing Ruin of the CrossAxe castle of the Ossolinski Clan is just that. Yet to fully appreciate it, we have to go back to the beginning. The CrossAx idea was born in the mind of a young man , Kristoff Ossolinski -blessed by life's faith to be the heir to the wanderous fortune 20 times of the Rockeffelers. Inspired by the architecture of the Farnese Family Renaissance Castle near Caprarola , while attending the wedding of the Medici family in Italy, Kristof dreamed of building the residence fitting his family status. The result was an allegorical Palazzio, incased in the fortress inspired by classical architecture and astronomy. The castle has 12 ballrooms, 52 rooms and 365 windows. Similarly to the techniques used in ancient Egypt/Rome /Greece the chambers are constructed to attain specific interplay of light and shadow. Sunsets,Sun rises,Moon phases are seen from specific chambers. The Gardens stretched more than one mile and the main ballroom was a glass dome with a tropical fish tank. Out of the CrossAxes many secrets I like the "whispers". The rooms of the CrossAxe were constructed in such way that even the faintest whispers can be heard in other castle locations - known only to the castle owners. Deep below the castle there is a secret spring w healing waters you get too through the tunnel. There is an old Italian Saying - "Scolpisci Sula pietra I tuoi sogni, un giorno parlea di te" ----- if yr sculp yr dreams in stone, one day they will tell yr story. #Castle#Italy#beautifulPoland#amazingdestinations#wanderlust#shotoniphone#instagrampics#goodvibes#rockclimbing#bouldering#poland#polska#castello#abandonedplaces#goodtimes#iphonephotography#inspiringlocations#weekend#farnesefamily#caprarola#italianarchitecture#palazzo#travelblogger#travelphotography#centraleurope#easterneurope
Pamah Semelir was completely off the beaten track. In 15 min we were invited to see the primary forest, help with the local project and feel the local life. No way we would say no!
No signal for internet connection and terrific roads to cross, but a pure place with delicious coffee, breathtaking landscape, aromatic smells and kids with the urge to open their eyes to the world.
Pamah Semelir is not yet known. Now, it just belongs to the families who have been staying generation by generation.
One day, maybe, they will be able to open their doors and give little bit of the world that I was lucky to receive.
Me, Mathieu, SAPANA.org and the rangers are working together to create more opportunities to this little heaven on earth.
If you are on the way to Bukit Lawang, North Sumatra, you may consider to do a detour and come to Pamah Semelir for a more fulfilling experience.
