"Risky Business" - 1983
Joel: (leaning against 10 speed) Me...I don't wanna make a mistake...jeopardize my future.
Miles: Joel...ya wanna know something?
Joel: (disgusted) What?
Miles: Every now and then...say what the fuck.
What the fuck gives you freedom.
Freedom brings opportunity. Opportunity...makes your future.
"Risky Business" was everything when it came out. Suburban kids, pimps, hot escorts, Porsches, hustle.
What more could you want?! As a kid from the suburbs of Chicago who had an entrepreneurial spirit, I could empathize. My Pop, not always being the most traditional parent, also liked "Risky Business.” I am pretty sure for the same reasons I did.
In 1983, I was 8.
One day my pop came home, and he had gotten me a gift. It was one of those BIG 6" diameter buttons. It was purple and in large white letters it said, "Sometimes you gotta say...
What The Fuck!?" I thought it was hilarious, as did my friends. Not so sure about everyone else. I enjoyed it so much that it stuck with me. Funny how that works. What likely was considered, horrendous parenting, actually turned into a solid life lesson, 30 years later.
Sometimes people don't get it.
Sometimes people don't see what you see.
So take the time to speak with yourself, so you may find what it is you truly want in this life. Because, to be successful, there will be a point when most sane people would call it quits, and you will have to continue on. You will have to carry on in the face, of doubt, or rejection, or betrayal, or even ridicule. These points will come!
They will create opportunity!
You have the power to create freedom!
So, when they do come, be prepared to create your opportunity.
One thing that I've learned, in all my years...sometimes you gotta say...
what the fuck...
and make your move.
