'EXCLUSIVE: THE WHISKY BIBLE JIM MURRAY Q&A WITH THE WHISKY BARREL (PART 1)' *link in bio*
Following last week's release of Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2018 and the announcement of World Whisky of the Year, we were fortunate to be able to put some questions to the man himself, Jim Murray, in an exclusive interview with The Whisky Barrel. •
Why did this year's winner come top of the pile?
What other whiskies stood out this year?
What does Jim think of the current state of the whisk(e)y industry?
Does Jim drink anything other than whisk(e)y?!

Part 2 tomorrow!
I don't want to be that "I told you so guy".....but....... I told you it was great!
Now, I am elated the see that more of the whisky community feels the same way as I have for a while now. I've said a lot about Lost Spirits and my friends over there in the past so all I will leave this with is a much deserved and earned: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To Lost Spirits Distillery on their latest prestigious honor for their rating of the Abomination line in the famed Whisky Bible.
So there should be no more excuses for you discovering this great distillery that is innovating and changing our entire concept of making magnificent whiskey.
Bravo Bryan and Joanne, Bravo! - Finn. "Jim Murray’s famous 2018 Whisky Bible has awarded 94 points and its coveted Liquid Gold designation to Lost Spirits Abomination, a peated malt “aged” in just 6 days utilizing Lost Spirits’ revolutionary patented technology." "The Whisky Bible contains over 4,600 ratings of the world’s top whiskies, and Liquid Gold is only awarded to those scoring at least 94 points -- representing the top 5% of all whiskies cataloged in the “bible.” "Lost Spirits entered two peated malts into the judging: Abomination - Crying of the Puma and Abomination - Sayers of the Law. Both started as Scottish malts so young they cannot yet legally be labeled whisky. The spirits were then finished in California over 6 days utilizing Lost Spirits’ revolutionary patented technology. The Crying of the Puma expression nearly also achieved the Liquid Golddesignation, scoring 93 points. No additives or flavorings of any kind were utilized from start to finish." - Joanne Haruta

✅The Glenfiddich "Snow Phoenix " inspired by the collapse of several Glenfiddich warehouse roofs in January 2010 following weeks of heavy snow.
The exposed casks some ex-bourbon, some ex-Oloroso 😀were buried and subject to temperatures as low as -19-degree Celsius.
The result is a vatting of whiskies from these casks that have risen to create one of my favourite expressions from this distillery.
Non-chill filtered bottled at 47.6% ABV 😀.
🥃 Aroma: Floral, pears, grapes, raisin, heather, Danish biscuits, butterscotch, cinnamon.
🥃 Taste / Palate: Honey 🍯 dried fruits, sherry "Oloroso", shortbread, dark chocolate 🍫, ginger, vanilla, wood.
🥃 Finish: long, creamy vanilla, ginger and a slight wood smoke.
✨Conclusion: The Snow Phoenix is a masterpiece by Glenfiddich's Malt Master Brian Kinsman.
In my opinion, It is one of their finest limited release to date.✅👌🥃🥃🥃👌✅
WHISKEY WEDNESDAY // So I have been fascinated by wood + how different types affect the flavour profile of whisk(e)y. While the majority of whiskey is aged in American Oak or European Oak, this featured whiskey of the week is something special: it spends time in Canadian Oak casks! Say whaaaat?
Well, to get real with you for a second, Canadian Oak + American Oak are the same, they're both "White Oak" or quercus alba. But where they differ is in climate. Ontario's colder climate yields a tighter grained oak which in theory releases more aromatic compounds (think eugenol (cloves), lactones (spice + coconut) and vanillin).

Elements of Scotch: Peat-
Let's sit down and talk about the elements in your spirits that make them taste the way we do. Today, we start with peat, which to many is synonymous with scotch itself. Learn what peat is, why they use it, and how it impacts the liquor itself. 👉
Johnnie Walker may reign as best selling Scottish Blend - but there are plenty of other excellent blends out there worth tasting. Name your price point - there is something that will surprise you. Blend does not mean bland any more!
