The Principal York, UK, is a truly grand late Victorian building, refurbished and restored to glory by interior architects Goddard Littlefair. It has been rewarded with gold at the 2016 Design Awards for Hospitality Interior Design and, amongst other accolades, was also a finalist in two classifications of the European Hotel Design Awards. In this hotel, two different design teams worked on the public areas and the suites, both choose to come to Havwoods, specifying various timber from our comprehensive range.
Last Thursday, two of our interior designers, Auburn Chrismon and Marishka Bachman, attended an event for introduction to basic tool safety, machine use and woodworking at the Station North Tool Library.
MARKETING TIP FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS:
Stop telling yourself that professional photographs of your work are too expensive. That cheap mindset devalues your work and discredits you.
Your vibe attracts your tribe. In this case, that means your DIY smartphone photos will attract other DIY'ers, rather than people who are serious about investing big bucks in your design services. Sure, there are exceptions to this, but they are minimal and not something to build a business on. You need to prove yourself to a potential client even before they contact you. You *will* be judged at first glance. You *must* be prepared to make an effective and profitable impression.
If you are new to design or have a tight budget, you especially need to photograph several projects per year, which is contrary to the "wait until I can afford it" mentality. Your craft is visual, so be visible. This will land you more work and allow you to increase your prices to match the perceived value of your work.
Use these photos in your social and email marketing and on your website. Pin them to Pinterest. Update your Houzz profile with fresh projects. Court different magazines here on Instagram and get your work featured. (Magazines are more likely to share or feature you if your photos are already magazine-worthy. A great example of an interior design firm that invests in excellent photography is @teaselwooddesign) .
If you aren't willing to make the investment in you, why should your clients? 🖒 you've got this.
