How to design an Extra Extra Hot Restaurant
I recently photographed the new Nando’s restaurant situated in the Jumeirah Islands Pavilion in Dubai, as designed by Harrison’s.
Harrison’s have a long-standing partnership with Nando’s of almost two decades. They have designed more than 300 restaurants in the UK and overseas and have been a major player in the brand’s expansion. Nando's is now the fastest growing chain of restaurants in the UAE. The first Nando's was launched in Dubai in September 2002.

So how do you design an extra extra hot Nando’s without referring to the 50 degree heat outside?? Harrison’s have worked with the Nando’s colour pallet and looked at the heritage materials associated with Nando’s and then given it a unique Dubai experience. Outside is a pergola covered seating area with pattern breeze block benches along with additional loose bright yellow chairs, large plant pots and a frontage of planters with the Nando’s sign.

Inside the space is divided by honeycomb screens providing an element of privacy to the booth dining experiencing, whilst maintaining an open feel to the restaurant. The walls are a mix of bespoke 3 dimensional tiles behind the drinks machine, to raked clay walls and terracotta bricks with bold African art.

Harrison’s have designed exclusively for the restaurant a range of colourful string pendants hanging from the diamond designed timber ceilings, set above the central party tables. These fittings are semi-transparent to allow vision through the restaurant and add a warm glow within the space. There is also a cluster of organic shaped blown glass pendants.

Comprising of 46 islands, known as ‘clusters’, Jumeirah Islands has 767 luxury villas and mansions, as well as mosques, nurseries and the Jumeirah Islands Club featuring restaurants, a pool and fitness centre.

#architecture  #interiordesign  #photography  #photooftheday  #photoshoot  #photographyeveryday  #architectureporn  #interiorphotography  #creative  #lights  #lightingdesign  #furnituredesign  #restaurantinterior  #restaurant  #restaurantfurniture  #picoftheday  #architects  #flooring  #ceiling  #tiling  #outsideliving  #outsidedining  #food
