Aveleda Vinho Verde 2016, Portugal
My Rating 88 Points.
Pale lemon in color with a green hue.
Very aromatic nose of lemons, citrus, flowers, green apples, grapefruits, bitter herbs, spices, white pepper and minerals.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity, crisp and refreshing with a bit of effervescent.
Dry to off dry on the palate with citrus, lemons, green apples, herbs, pears, minerals, spices and black pepper.
Medium plus in finish with spices and limes.
This Portuguese white is very enjoyable by itself or with food. Well balanced with mild complexity. Not bitter with a tangy/ spicy finish.
Refreshing when chilled properly. A good summer wine by the porch or pool. Easy to drink and better while still fresh.
I paired it with shrimp cocktail.
9.5% alcohol by volume.
For our look at #aussiewine history this week we're visiting @brokenwoodwines, one of the key wineries in the growth of boutique wineries in @Australia in the 1970s. One of our most famous #wine names, James Halliday @winecompanion, was one of the founders of #Brokenwood .
It was while he was studying a law degree that James Halliday was first bitten by the wine bug, but back then he could have had no idea that one day he would be recognised as the global authority on Australian wine. It was another legend of the industry, Len Evans, who became most important influence on young James.
Len shared his passion for wine with James, from tasting and judging to making and writing, instilling in him the importance of communicating consumers about wine. James’ passion was such that in 1970 he established Brokenwood winery in the Hunter Valley with two fellow solicitors, Tony Albert and John Beeston. Learning as they went, the amateur vignerons picked their first vintage in 1973 with the help of friends and family. It wasn’t long before the wines made at Brokenwood attracted the attention of wine lovers, and the winery’s reputation has grown and grown ever since.
Recanti Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Upper Galilee, Israel
My Rating 83 Points.
Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, currants, plums, oak, cloves, light vanilla, vegetables, spices, earth and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black plums, cloves, herbs, spices, dark coffee, black pepper, pencil lead, earth and vegetables.
Short finish with soft tannins and black pepper.
This Israeli Cabernet Sauvignon is simple and unbalanced, but drinkable. Nothing special. Kosher.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
@ENTERsake is a boutique sake collection curated by sake sommelier and sake samurai @RichieHawtin. With both having very clean and soft silky textures, Black Dot has white mountain flowers on the nose and hints of mango, peach, and pineapple. Silver is an aromatic Ginjo sake. Smells like honeysuckle with floral notes and hints of mango, Asian pear, and honeydew melon.
What a great day we had on Saturday at Sprits of Polo! 🥂
Wine Barbados had a fabulous wine and Prosecco bar at the event showcasing the fantastic Scavi and Ray Prosecco.
See if you can spot yourself in any of the photos!

Blending is an art and is an exciting part of winemaking. In the process of blending, the winemaker may choose to blend from different barrels or blend different varieties to obtain a desired profile for the finished #wine . Several reasons for blending wines could include enhancing aroma, improving color, lower or raise the acidity level or alcohol levels for sweetness of the finished product. Other times winemaker thinks the fruit has produced the best quality wine that it can all on its own and will not blend. Are 2015 #CabernetFranc was exceptional all by itself and we did not want to put any other variety in the final product therefore it is a 100% #CabFranc .
