Freddy vs Jason. 2003 (Netflix)
THE BIG BATTLE WE WERE ALL WAITING FOR?
Carrying on with my Freddy series reviews we have a movie with a twist which horror fans were foaming at the mouth for after 'Jason Goes to Hell'. Freddy Krueger is becoming a forgotten man by the folks on Elm St but he has a new idea up his sleeve. He brings Jason back from Camp Crystal Lake to do his dirty work for him knowing that everyone will start mentioning the name 'Freddy' again. When Jason starts getting greedy with the kill count, Freddy doesn't take to kindly and tries to stop Jason from stealing his precious murder spree. After seeing the ideas run out on this franchise, it's not too bad of an idea for a new movie it's just a shame its executed horribly. I knew from about 5 minutes in that this film wasn't gonna be very good as we had Freddy at his worst being all comedic and even less scarier as each film goes on. I hate this type of character why can't he go back to being like the first 3 films? Jason the other villain never speaks in this film like in all the other 'Friday the 13th' films but what brings his character to life in those are his inventive deaths to the campers. It's a shame that most of the kills here are just a machete blade being wielded about. I can think of one good standout kill in the whole movie (best moment underneath the review) which doesn't bode well in a film involving two of horrors biggest icons. The cgi is just lame. One part was Freddy bringing a snake like character in the room and it honestly looked better in part 3 from 1987. The acting is nothing short of atrocious. I didn't care for any one of them. It has Kelly Rowland in which most bad horror films seemed to do in the 00s. Putting a hip hop star in there. The only positives here are that its mildly entertaining at times and unbelievably it isnt the worst Freddy film. I would skip this though for sure.
Fun Fact : 'Weston Hills' is also the mental hospital from part 3.
Best Moment : When Jason folds a bed in half with someone lying on top of it breaking a few bones.
Best Quote : Freddy 'Being dead wasn't the problem, being forgotten now that's a bitch'
Score : 3.5/10
