“You know I think that Robbie Lawler is a guy that is a fan favorite. I think Dana (White) is a fan of his, of Robbie himself. I think that Lawler was a great champion. He had ‘fight of the year’ back to back years and he forces a fight where it is a you or me style. I think Dana (White) wants to see me in a position where it is not a technical match. You know, not a clash of styles. Less of a chess match and more of a brawl, because it is more attractive for fans. So I think the UFC is hoping for that.”
Woodley believes that if Lawler is to defeat ‘RDA’ at UFC on FOX 26, that the promotion will push him to have a rematch with “Ruthless”.
With that said, Woodley knows that an impressive performance from Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217 could result in “Gamebred” receiving the next title nod.
“I think if ‘RDA’ won the fight (against Lawler), I think he could potentially get the next title shot. But I think if somebody else steps up, like say Jorge Masvidal goes Ham on ‘Wonderboy’, then I think there is a good chance you will see someone else emerge as the top contender.”
“T-Wood” has also considered moving up to middleweight for his next fight, and is eyeing the winner of November’s UFC 217 title fight between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre.
“I am also considering going up to middleweight. I think Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre are two huge fights for me. They are fighting each other so I don’t see why there is any reason that I can’t have the winner of that fight. I am pretty open to anything at this point. But I do really want to fight Georges St-Pierre to see who really is the best welterweight of all-time.”
“I think I could’ve lit him up a little more on the feet,” Johnson said Monday on The MMA Hour. “But like, when I hit him with my cross and I saw him, he just smiled, I thought, ‘Okay, you’ve got a hard head. You’ve got a granite chin.’ So I was like, okay. I’m always calculating everything, so I was like, ‘Okay, if I stand and bang with him, there’s I chance I get clipped, and then that clip, I can get a mouse under my eyes or I can get cut, et cetera, et cetera.’
“So it’s like, ‘Eh, do I want to do this? Eh, no, let’s just change elevation and take him down and look for the big shot when I get the opportunity.’ So that’s how I think about mixed martial arts. Now, if we were in the gym sparring, then I should’ve been able to light him up on the feet and exchange more. But when you have those three-ounce gloves on, why take the risk?”
“I mean, I saw Bobby Green and Lando Vannata (at UFC 216), and everybody in the back was like, ‘Oh, man, that’s a sick fight!’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, look at his face, that cannot be good for his brain,’” Johnson said. “I’m just honest. I think [Vannata] is an amazing fighter, he has a great game, he comes forward, does a good job mixing it up, great power. But for me, if I was his coach, I’d be like, ‘Dude, you need to work on your wrestling. We need to work on your clinch game. We need to work on not taking so much damage, because I want you to have a long career.’
“When you’re done fighting, I don’t want to look back at your fights and be like, ‘Oh man, you were such a sick-ass fighter, you did this and this.’ I want to look back at your career and be like, ‘Man, you did such a good job of not taking any damage, and look, you have something to show for it. You have a 15-year career, instead of a short three or four years because of all the concussions you’ve taken.’
“So that’s my whole thing,” Johnson continued. “But those two fighters, amazing. I told Bobby Green, I was like, ‘Damn, dog, you go have that five-piece chicken meal. I was worried about you. You’ve got to duck and move and do some wrestling, homie.’”

"A journalist rings me up and says, 'You're not fighting in Sydney,” Hunt told ESPN recently. “I had to check to see if it was true. I was really upset by that. I've lost a lot of money on this camp, and losing this fight will cost me over $1 million. I had plans for that money. I have taxes to pay. To hear it from a journalist - they could have called me themselves.
"And the thing is, I didn't know why they pulled me. I still don't. I've passed all the medicals. I'd like to know the reason I've been put on the sideline."
"There's nothing in the results that says I can't fight. . . The UFC says they're acting for my well-being; why did they put me in the Octagon with all these cheaters, then? Why are they letting Georges St-Pierre fight again when he's talked about seeing aliens? They just let a guy fight with a staph infection last week. If they're worried about our well-being, why did they do all that?"
Despite the two videos that came out, Jason spoke up to deny the assault allegations. The fighter explained everything in writing through Instagram, which was obtained by MMA Fighting before the account was set to private.
I didn’t assault my sister. Where’s the photo of the assault? There is no (photo) because there was no (assault). She came to attack me, ‘her history in the city’, I pushed her and she went down, I decided to get it off my chest because I’m the youngest son of the family and I support my two siblings who never worked, and her with two kids.
I’m not and never was aggressive. I didn’t assault my sister and that didn’t even cross my mind, but constant dripping wears away the stone. She said in comments and in reports that she came to 'teach me a moral lesson’, but you have to have moral to begin with. She’s almost 40 with two kids, supported her entire life by her mother and by me. Anyway… I’m not in favor of aggression, who knows me know I was never in favor of it. But let’s move on with life because God gives the worst missions to his best soldiers. Nothing is in vain.
Jason has since been cut by the UFC, but according to the company statement, he was released “after suffering three losses in his last four bouts.”
